Abstract: A rotary grinding mill for that improves the rotary grinding mill process. A milling assembly that comprise an offset ripper blades to limit the noise applied to the unit, cutting edges on the milling assembly blades, and an trailing blade edge that is angled creating a milling fan blade. The milling fan blade creates an air flow through the mill assembly. A collection container that utilized a plurality of cyclonic air flow patterns and filters to remove particles from the air.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods of extracting DNA from seeds, said method comprising pretreating said seeds by soaking the seeds in a pretreatment solution comprising an alkali in a concentration sufficient to soften said seed; crushing said seeds; extracting said DNA from said crushed seeds. Methods also relate to the use of pretreatment solutions which further comprise an osmoticum. A method of fragmenting plant material such as seed, a method of recovering extraction medium from seed fragmentation and a process of extracting a seed component from crushed seed material are also described.

Abstract: A household cereal mill is constructed wth the axis of symmetry of coaxial stationary and rotatable millstones in a horizontal alignment. The driveshaft for the rotating millstone passes through the center of the stationary millstone, and the bearing bushings supporting the driveshaft are inserted into the fixed or stationary millstone. Grain is fed into the conically expanding milling gap between the millstones from above, through a supply channel passing through the matrix of the stationary millstone at a location above the intersection of the apex of the milling gap cone and the centerline of the driveshaft. A spiral spring is employed as a conveyor worm for feed kernels, and is affixed on the outer surface of the driveshaft in a position underlying the supply passage. The milling gap is made adjustable by an adjusting nut screwed onto the outer end of the cantilevered driveshaft segment supporting the rotating millstone, which is slideably positioned on the driveshaft, and keyed thereto for rotational engagement. The end of the driveshaft protruding from the stationary millstone may be adapted for manual drive, to engage the output shaft of a kitchen utensil drive machine, or may be adapted for drive, directly or through a transmission, by an electric motor forming an integral part of the mill assembly.

Abstract: A small compact mill for grinding wheat and other grains comprises annular grinding stones, one fixed and the other driven, each secured to steel cutting burrs which have their cutting edges substantially in the grinding plane and one of which receives grain through a central opening in the burrs. The grain is cut or chopped by secant or non-radial cutter elements closely facing each other and set for shearing action. These force the grain as it is cut radially outward between annular grinding stones which are secured respectively to the stationary and the driven rotary burr. The driven burr is directly connected to the drive shaft of the motor, the motor being provided with a thrust bearing to oppose the thrust between the chopping and grinding elements. A hopper above the stones supplies the feed and includes a removable bottom sealed to the sides, and is provided with a metering opening to feed grain at controlled rate into a feed channel connected with the inlet through the stationary burr.
