Abstract:
An orally administered, novel dietary supplement or therapeutic composition capable of insulin-like activity in animals, preferably humans, is provided. Contained in the composition are therapeutically effective amounts of vanadyl sulfate, alpha-lipoic acid, taurine, and chromium carnitine. The composition is preferably orally administered on a daily basis for at least about 4 weeks and can be used by normal, healthy individuals as well as diabetics.
Abstract:
A method for enhancing the effect of anti-tumor agents on solid tumors is provided. The method comprises administering to an individual an anti-tumor agent and a hematocrit elevator. The hematocrit elevator may be administered before or concurrently with the anti-tumor agent.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composite for the treatment of a variety of medical conditions, the composite comprising an oxidized glutathione-based compound, which has a disulfide bond, and a metal material, in particular where the metal is either platinum or palladium. The oxidized glutathione-based compound and metal material can be present in a ratio of 3000 to 1 and preferably 1000 to 1. The oxidized glutathione-based compound can be oxidized glutathione itself or salts or derivatives. A feature of the invention is that the composite has a more stabilized disulfide bond than the oxidized glutathione-based compound itself. Methods for preparing the composite are provided, such methods being beneficial in that the composite is provided in high yields and at high purity. Methods for treating various medical conditions with the composites of the present invention are also disclosed.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the use of gallium-containing compounds, to inhibit intracellular pathogens including pathogens that are members of the genus Mycobacteria, Legionella, Histoplasma, and Leishmania and to organisms causing chronic pulmonary infection such P. aeruginosa.
Abstract:
A method of treating a subject infected with a virus or a method of preventing viral infection of a subject comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a compound having the structure: wherein L=L′=2-methylimidazole.
Abstract:
An anti-snoring composition especially effective in the form of a throat spray is disclosed, the composition comprising an aqueous ethanolic solution of seven homeopathic ingredients.
Abstract:
Methods of using the chromium(III) complex represented by the formula [Cr3O(O2CCH2CH3)6(H2O)3]+ as a nutritional supplement, and for treating medical disorders associated with chromium deficiency. Nutritive and pharmaceutical compositions containing this chromium(III) complex are also provided.
Abstract:
A composition comprising a trivalent bismuth salt, particularly bismuth nitrate, and dimercaprol is described. Methods for using the composition as a bacteriocidal and bacteriostatic agent and as a disinfectant and preservative are also provided.
Abstract:
A method is provided for enhancing the solubility of an ionizable compound in a lipophilic medium by admixing the compound with an effective solubility-enhancing amount of an N,N-dinitramide salt. The ionizable compound, upon ionization, gives rise to a biologically active cationic species that ionically associates with the N,N-dinitramide anion N(NO2)2− following admixture with the N,N-dinitramide salt. The biologically active cationic species may be a pharmacologically active cation, in which case the method is useful for enhancing the penetration of the blood-brain barrier by the pharmacologically active cation. In other embodiments, the ionizable compounds are medical imaging or diagnostic agents, or agricultural agents such as pesticides. Salts of biologically active cations and N,N-dinitramide ion are also provided as novel compositions of matter.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compositions comprising various vitamins and minerals and methods for using these compositions for nutritional supplementation in, for example, pregnant or lactating subjects.
