The output gearwheel has a rotational axis spaced apart radially from a rotational axis of the drive gearwheel.     Abstract: The present gear mechanism includes a base body member, a first gear supported on the base body member so as to rotate about a first rotational axis, a second gear capable of being meshed with the first gear, a support member supporting the second gear so as to rotate about a second rotational axis and placed on the base body member so as to be movable in approaching and leaving directions respectively toward and away from the first rotational axis, and a retaining member engaged in a threaded hole formed in the base body member and capable of being turned so as to move in the approaching and leaving directions, and directly or indirectly engaged with the support member to restrain the support member from moving in the leaving direction away from the first rotational axis.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains generally to a self-locking gear that includes an input shaft, a collar, a locking mechanism, and an output member. The collar is positioned eccentrically about the input shaft, and the locking mechanism prevents the collar from rotating. As a result, rotation of the input shaft causes the collar to gyrate about the input shaft, and the gyrating collar engages with the output member to turn the output member in the same direction as the input shaft. Torque applied to the output member with cause the output member to attempt to rotate the collar. However, the locking mechanism prevents the collar from rotating, thus locking the output member from rotation.

    Abstract: A turning gear apparatus mounted adjacent the bull gear of a large turbomachine rotor has a carriage pivotably mounted to the frame, a first pinion rotatably mounted on the carriage, and a second pinion continuously engaging the first pinion and rotatably mounted to the frame coaxial with the carriage pivoting axis. The improvement comprises locating the carriage on the side of the bull gear where it rotates in an upward direction, with the axis of the second pinion located such that when the carriage is pivoted and the first pinion engages the bull gear, the axis of rotation of the first pinion is located on a selected angle below the horizintal substantially equal to the pressure angle of the bull gear tooth, resulting in substantially vertical reaction forces. Also in the preferred embodiment, the pivotable carriage is rendered bi-stable by disposing the first pinion above the second pinion and providing stops such that the pivotable turning gear carriage has a center of gravity which falls on either side of a vertical line through the pivot point and above the pivot point, when the carriage is positioned on the respective stops in the engaged or disengaged position.
