摘要： A device for cleaving optical fibers having a housing with an internal chamber, a fiber alignment member removably connected to the housing and a fiber cutting member supported by the housing. The alignment member has an opening sized to receive the ferrule of a fiber optic connector and has a stop proximate to the inward end of an opening to engaged the ferrule distal end. The alignment member is quickly interchangeable with another sized and arranged to handle the ferrule of a different type or size connector. The opening is sized to receive ferrule with an optical fiber to be cleaved, and permits the fiber to extend inward beyond the inward end of the opening and into the housing internal chamber. The fiber cutting member is mounted to the housing to cleave the fiber inserted into the opening and cause separation of a cut end of the fiber within the housing internal chamber, and is quickly removable for replacement when the alignment member is disconnected from the housing if a blade thereof is damaged or worn. The alignment member has a user operable lock to unlock the alignment member from the housing. The lock has a release positioned within the housing internal chamber for access by a user through a housing opening sized to provide access to the housing internal chamber. An endcap closes the housing opening and hold a spare fiber cutting member.

摘要： A method for cutting a laminated web comprises the steps of engaging a first side of the laminated web with a crack initiator having a high rake angle, the crack initiator extending from a first cutter base having a low rake angle, the laminated web including at least a support web, and an upper layer that may, at least for imaging elements, be considered a protective layer, the upper layer being thinner than the support web, the upper layer being located at the first side of the laminated web structure; simultaneously engaging a second side of the laminated web with a second cutter; generating a first crack in the first side of the laminated web with the crack initiator completely through the upper layer; engaging the web with the cutter base of the first cutter; and further propagating the first crack using the cutter base while disengaging the crack initiator of the first cutter.

摘要： The dispenser dispenses tickets such as instant-winner lottery tickets from a strip in which the individual tickets are delineated by perforation lines. The dispenser includes a separator to tear the tickets apart before issuing them from the machine. The separator preferably is rotary and has a dull helical blade which rotates to contact the ticket strip adjacent a perforation line, and presses against the strip to tear the tickets apart along the perforation line at a point which progresses across the strip along the perforation line. Preferably, a bar code reader is provided for reading codes on tickets in the dispensing machine. The bar code reader is used in reading information from the tickets to initialize the dispenser control system and in accounting for the sale of tickets, and in the verification of winning tickets being sold. A game is provided in which the concept is that a jackpot is built up using the detection of each ticket sold. The mechanism is simplified by using a separator member and transport drive structures which span a plurality of different channels or bins of a multi-channel dispenser. This provides a very compact, simple, secure and low-cost mechanism which is used both in stand-alone ticket vending machines, and in counter-top attended dispensers.
