摘要： A self-venting package (A) contains peracetic acid or other strong oxidants in a unit dose that assures sterilization of instruments and equipment in an automated sterilizing apparatus (FIG. 3) or of biological wastes in a biological waste comminuting apparatus (FIG. 4). The self-venting package is constructed of a cylindrical body having first and second vent apertures (12, 14) 180.degree. offset adjacent a first edge (20) and third and fourth vent apertures (16, 18) 180.degree. offset adjacent a second edge (26). The first and second vent apertures are 90.degree. offset relative to the third and fourth vent apertures. The first edge is flattened and sealed forming a pair of corners (40, 42) such that the first and second vent apertures are disposed closely adjacent the first and second corners. The container is filled with peracetic acid or other liquids which liberate gas or vapors. A second end (26) of the container is flattened and sealed in a direction transverse to the first edge. Flattening the second edge defines third and fourth corners (44, 46). The third and fourth vent apertures are disposed closely adjacent to the third and fourth corners. Portions of a semi-permeable membrane (32, 34, 36, 38) cover each of the vent apertures. The semi-permeable membrane permits gas or vapor to pass freely therethrough while blocking the passage of liquids.

摘要： A method and apparatus for manufacturing an improved bag for the cultivation of mushroom spawn is provided. The bags have continuous gas permeable sealing strips sealed to the inside walls of the bags which cover openings in the bag, so as to allow the bag to be vented without loss of moisture. The openings and sealing strips are positioned close to the top and bottom of the bag so as to maximize air flow through the mushroom spawn without creating dry spots, thereby improving spawn yield. The apparatus includes rollers for dispensing plastic film and at least one continuous hydrophobic strip of material. A series of apertures are punched by cutting dies in the film, and a vacuum system removes the cut out portions. The strip of material is positioned over the apertures and sealed by sealing dies over them, so as to enclose the apertures. A cutting dies cuts off the film and strips. A conventional bag making machine then forms the bags.

摘要： A dispensing bag for particulate matter is closed at one end by a two layer closure formed by an openable outer closure, and an inner dispersion panel with apertures of suitable size therethrough. Opening the outer closure exposes the apertures in the dispersion panel and permits particulate matter to be dispensed therethrough. The bags may be conveniently mass produced from sheet material, such as flexible plastic, in the form of a continuous strip or flattened tube, by appropriate cutting, folding, and joining operations. The invention provides an inexpensive container from which particulate matter may be conveniently dispensed in controlled fashion, and which resists accidental opening and spillage.

摘要： A portable water reservoir to be worn by a firefighter to provide a supply of water for use in extinguishing fires, e.g., the remnants of a forest or brushland fire, comprises a garment like body formed of an inner ply of flexible sheet material having a high resistance to rupture, puncture and delamination, and capable of being welded to itself such that the weld likewise has high resistance to rupture and delamination, the inner ply being doubled and welded to itself continuously along its free edges in a continuous wide weld to define therein a water-tight reservoir capable of holding several gallons of water; and an outer ply of flexible sheet material having high tensile and tear strength, shape retention, and resistance to heat, flame and hydrostatic pressure; the outer ply overlying and completely encompassing the inner ply and the reservoir defined thereby and being mechanically attached, preferably stitched or sewn, at its free marginal edges to and continuously along and solely within the continuous wide weld at the free edges of the inner ply, so that the integrity of the reservoir is preserved and the outer ply firmly supports and imparts strength and shape retention to the inner ply.
