    摘要: A system and method for providing telephone type services over the internetwork commonly known as the Internet. Public switched telephone networks utilizing program controlled switching systems are arranged in an architecture with the Internet to provide a methodology for facilitating telephone use of the Internet by customers on an impromptu basis. Provision is made to permit a caller to set-up and carry out a telephone call over the Internet from telephone station to telephone station without access to computer equipment, without the necessity of maintaining a subscription to any Internet service, and without the requiring Internet literacy or knowledge. Calls may be made on an inter or intra LATA, region or state, nationwide or worldwide basis. Billing may be implemented on a per call, timed, time and distance or other basis. Usage may be made of common channel interoffice signaling to set up the call and establish the necessary Internet connections and addressing. Calls may be made from telephone station to telephone station, from telephone station to computer or computer to telephone station.

    摘要: A method for controlling flow, through a computer hardware resource, of information to and from computer applications. When a flow of information is initiated from one of the applications, a determination is made whether the resource is being accessed by another one of the applications and, if so, the flow of information from the first application is delayed. If not, then the flow of information is enabled. When a flow of information is initiated toward the applications, a determination is made to which one of the applications the information is flowing, and the flow is directed to that one application. A graphical interface associates, in the mind of a user, a computer hardware resource with a corresponding real office device, the computer resource enabling the computer to function like the consumer device. The graphical interface includes a surrealistic image having physical features which represent functional components of the resource, the physical features of the image resembling corresponding features of the office device; and an animation routine which causes the image to change when the user selects one of the features of the image, thereby invoking the change occurring in a manner which resembles changes to the office device when the corresponding feature of the office device is invoked.

    摘要: A network management system for configurating and reading data and states of several network elements, such as telephone exchanges, of a telecommunication network by giving the network elements commands according to their internal command language when at least some of the network elements of the telecommunication network have mutually different internal command languages includes a memory for storing parameters describing the command language of each network element, a generator for generating service requests (Rq) in a network element-independent format, a converter (21, 22, 23) for converting the network element independent service requests into commands according to the command language of the network element which is the target of service by using parameters describing the command language of the network element, and a sender for sending the generated commands to the network element which is the target of service. The network management updates the parameter files automatically by giving the network elements a specific command which reads the internal data structures, such as syntactic, semantic and user help data, of any other internal command or command response of the network element.

The digital line card includes a digital signal processing integrated circuit, a microprocessor and a random access memory component for storing coding schemes employed by the digital signal processing integrated circuit. The digital line card is programmed to detect the presence of dual-tone multifrequency command signals in the incoming data stream, and to switch between voice and data processing responsive to the command signals.
