Abstract:
A method for pressurizing an aerosol dispensing system with propellant in which a flexible inner container is inserted within a rigid outer container. The mouth opening of the inner container, having flexible means thereon, extends outwardly through the neck opening of the outer container with the flexible means supported by the neck opening. A dispensing cap is moved into engagement with the flexible means and the dispensing cap and flexible means are moved away from the neck opening while propellant is then injected through the neck opening into the region between the inner and outer containers. The dispensing cap is moved into the neck opening and crimped into engagement therewith to fix the position of the flexible means and inner container while maintaining a space between the neck opening and a portion of the exterior surface of the dispensing cap during crimping.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing an oil seal element from polytetrafluoroethylene and the like. A tubular billet of polytetrafluoroethylene or the like is provided with an outer cylindrical surface of the desired diameter and an inner cylindrical surface approximating but slightly smaller than the desired diameter, and an end wall is faced off perpendicular to the cylindrical surfaces. A series of washers of a desired thickness is then sliced from the billet. The flat washer is then first assembled with a metal case and then a desired hydrodynamic shape, such as a spiral groove, is coined in. Preferably, the inner pierce is completed at this time. Each washer may then be formed under pressure to permanently deform the radially inner portion thereof to a frustoconical shape. The assembled seal may be held on a shaft-size mandrel during application of a coating to the metal case.
Abstract:
In the manufacture of filled tube rods the ends of the rods are sealed with a solid organic film volatilizable at welding temperature to provide a contaminant free weldment. The organic film is preferably a sealant composition containing pyroxylin (nitrocellulose), ether, and absolute alcohol as principal ingredients, and dried by very rapid means, i.e., infrared heating.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing an oil seal element from polytetrafluoroethylene and the like. A tubular billet is provided with inner and outer cylindrical surfaces of desired final dimensions and is then faced off on one end wall perpendicular to the cylindrical surfaces. A spiral groove leading from the innermost periphery of the face for a desired distance outwardly is next machined in the faced end wall. A washer of a desired thickness having the spiral groove on one of its faces is then sliced from the billet, thereby also facing the billet for a similar sequence of machining a groove and slicing off washers. Each washer is formed under pressure to permanently deform it, so that the radially inner portion is frustoconical, the outer portion remaining flat.
