A latching arrangement is provided having a latch which comprises a latch portion having a latch nose mounted on a radius about a generally vertical pivot axis. A generally constant force resilient device urges a base portion of the latch into the inward or engaged position with a container. Since the moment arm of the latch portion about the generally vertical axis is generally constant, the respective entry and exit forces for engaging and removing containers from the latching arrangement are generally constant, and can be varied by altering the entry and exit incline of the nose portion.

In accordance with the present invention, the sprockets and rails with spaced openings are replaced with spaced longitudinally extending trolley rails on opposite sides of the car and rollers riding thereon supporting the bulkheads. In cross section, the shape of the roller is such that the bulkhead becomes largely self-aligning. The rail can readily be manufactured with available parts relatively inexpensively. Since the rollers are not interconnected a wide range of manufacturing and other tolerance variations can be tolerated. A bulkhead locking member is engageable with longitudinally spaced locking means to hold the bulkheads in a desired position in the transportation vehicle. A wide variety of geometrical arrangements and cross-sectional shapes for the supports, trolley rails and rollers may be used to obtain the self-aligning capability.

A fluid chamber cushions the movement of the seat ring and contains flowline fluid which is squeezed or metered from the chamber upon impact of the clapper with the seat. A sealing member on the seat ring extends into the fluid chamber but is inoperative when the valve member is out of contact with the seat ring to permit a continuous flow of flowline fluid through the chamber in the open position of the valve member. Sealing of the seat ring is effective only upon travel of the seat ring after contact by the valve member and a free lip portion on the sealing member provides a sealing pressure proportional to the flowline pressure.

Also mounted on the shaft is at least one locking cam. Upon rotation of the shaft to move the locking means into engagement with the gate, a locking cam engages the surface of a rigid member, deflecting the shaft and then locking the cam in place to hold the locking means in engagement with the gate. Reduction of exhaust emissions is obtained by controlling the carburetor choke valve with greater flexibility. A piston motor responsive to manifold vacuum opens the choke valve partially soon after the engine starts. A diaphragm motor responds to engine vacuum more slowly than the first motor. The diaphragm acts through a modulating spring to open the choke valve, which is connected to a thermostatic coil spring urging the choke valve closed at low ambient temperatures. At high ambient temperatures, actuation of the diaphragm causes wide opening of the choke valve, and at low ambient temperature causes less initial opening, followed by further opening of the choke valve as the engine warms up.

The passage from the accelerating pump cylinder to the mixture conduit of the carburetor is closed by a spring pressed check valve. The portion of the passage between the check valve and the mixture conduit has a vent which prevents the depression in that portion of the passage from becoming great enough to draw fuel past the check valve out of the pump cylinder. When the accelerating pump is actuated, the force of the pumped fuel closes a valve which shuts the vent, and the pumped fuel flows into the mixture conduit.
