A faceplate having at least one opening with a cover. The cover may be removed after initial use of a circuit board to be replaced with a connector unit through which conductors may extend to the circuit board to allow for its modification in operation. This enables the same faceplate to be used for modification purposes and without the expense entailed with a faceplate of different design. The cover may be such as to completely cover the whole of the opening. Alternatively, the cover may be provided by a connector unit which enables interconnection of conductors through the faceplate in one part of the unit while providing, in another part of the unit, the cover for part of the opening. This connector unit may then be replaced in the modification by another connector unit which enables connectors to extend and be connected through the whole of the opening. Conveniently, a latching arrangement is provided for assembly and disassembly purposes for both the cover and connector unit with frontal access. This provides speed of operation with no loose parts required. Also included is a method for providing the inventive modification.

A hinge attaches a first cable management arm to the rack or to a first drawer slide, which is attached to the rack. A flexible linkage is connected between and joins each of the free ends of the two cable management arms. Cables for interconnecting two or more equipment units are attached to the cable management arms and flexible linkage. The equipment unit can be extended out the front or back of the rack for servicing, and each of the cable management arms can be rotated away from the equipment unit to permit easy access to the unit. The flexible linkage limits the bend radii of the cables without regard to the position of the cable management arms or the position of the equipment unit relative to the rack. In another embodiment, a single flexible cable management arm is used instead of the two cable management arms and flexible linkage.

A bend radius guide provides effective cable management and bend radius control to prevent microbending of fiber optic cables entering and exiting cable distribution enclosures. Using arcuate surfaces, the guide provides bend radius control to prevent against microbending at distribution enclosure openings in directions horizontal or vertical to the enclosure depending upon the placement of the guide. When used in conjunction, bend radius guides prevent microbending in both horizontal and vertical directions concurrently. Bend radius guides used in conjunction can manage a number of fiber cables while still allowing access to individual cables through an angled slot formed by the joining of two guides.
