摘要: Apparatuses and methods for accelerating electrons include an electron source configured to provide a beam of electrons and an accelerator that utilizes electron cyclotron resonance acceleration (eCRA). The accelerator includes a radio frequency (RF) cavity having a longitudinal axis, one or more inlets, and one or more outlets and a first electro-magnet substantially surrounding at least a portion of the cavity and configured to produce an axial magnetic field. The RF cavity is coupled to an RF source and configured to accelerate the beam of electrons axially entering the RF cavity with non-linear cyclotron resonance acceleration. A second electro-magnet located downstream of the one or more outlets of the RF cavity is configured to generate an inverse cusp in the axial magnetic field to manipulate the beam of electrons leaving the RF cavity from a helical orbit to a substantially linear path.

摘要: A dynamic magnetic field feed device feeds a magnetic field at predetermined timing to a predetermined region through which an ion beam having desired energy circulating in an acceleration space passes, and displaces a circular orbit of the ion beam having the desired energy. An extraction channel is arranged on an outer periphery of a magnetic pole. A position O1 where an ion introduction device introduces ions into the acceleration space is a position closer to the extraction channel relative to a center O2 of the magnetic pole. A region to which the dynamic magnetic field feed device feeds a magnetic field is a region closer to an opening of the extraction channel relative to the position O1 where ions are introduced, and the magnetic field to be fed is a magnetic field in a direction where the main magnetic field is strengthened.

The plurality of drift tubes may define a multi-gap configuration corresponding to a plurality of acceleration gaps, wherein at least one powered drift tube of the drift tube assembly is coupled to receive an RF voltage signal. The apparatus may also include a DC electrode assembly that includes a conductor line, arranged within a resonator coil that is coupled to receive a DC voltage signal into the at least one powered drift tube. The DC electrode assembly may also include a DC electrode arrangement, connected to the conductor line and disposed within the at least one powered drift tube.

摘要: Disclosed is a high-frequency-tuning sliding electrical contact. The contact includes a tuning ring which is composed of an inner elastic piece, an upper base, an outer elastic piece and a lower base. Pull rods are welded to an upper side face of the upper base, and upper ends of the pull rods are driven to move up and down by a motor, so that the tuning ring slides up and down between the outer sleeve and the inner sleeve along the pull rods. The overall structure of the novel electrical contact is simple, compact and economical. The disclosure reduces joule heat produced by contact resistance and prevents contact surface fusion welding or conductive damage, and is especially suitable for tuning in a small gap range.

摘要: Methods for generating a multiple-energy X-ray pulse. A beam of electrons is generated with an electron gun and modulated prior to injection into an accelerating structure to achieve at least a first and specified beam current amplitude over the course of respective beam current temporal profiles. A radio frequency field is applied to the accelerating structure with a specified RF field amplitude and a specified RF temporal profile. The first and second specified beam current amplitudes are injected serially, each after a specified delay, in such a manner as to achieve at least two distinct endpoint energies of electrons accelerated within the accelerating structure during a course of a single RF-pulse. The beam of electrons is accelerated by the radio frequency field within the accelerating structure to produce accelerated electrons which impinge upon a target for generating Bremsstrahlung X-rays.

摘要: A hybrid linear accelerator is disclosed comprising a standing wave linear accelerator section (“SW section”) followed by a travelling wave linear accelerator section (“TW section”). In one example, RF power is provided to the TW section and power not used by the TW section is provided to the SW section via a waveguide. An RF switch, an RF phase adjuster, and/or an RF power adjuster is provided along the waveguide to change the energy and/or phase of the RF power provided to the SW section. In another example, RF power is provided to both the SW section and the TW section, and RF power not used by the TW section is provided to the SW section, via an RF switch, an RF phase adjuster, and/or an RF power. In another example, an RF load is matched to the output of the TW section by an RF switch.

摘要: An example particle accelerator includes the following: a voltage source to provide a radio frequency (RF) voltage to a cavity to accelerate particles from a plasma column, where the cavity has a magnetic field causing particles accelerated from the plasma column to move orbitally within the cavity; an extraction channel to receive the particles accelerated from the plasma column and to output the received particles from the cavity; and a regenerator to provide a magnetic field bump within the cavity to thereby change successive orbits of the particles accelerated from the plasma column so that, eventually, particles output to the extraction channel. The magnetic field is at least 6 Tesla and the magnetic field bump is at most 2 Tesla.
