A mobile communication system requires no fill code in a signal transmitted by way of radio communication between a mobile station and a radio base station. In a radio base station or a mobile station, a base station fill controller or a mobile station fill controller deletes a fill code from a picture signal which has been delivered from a facsimile apparatus connected thereto and which is to be transmitted to another facsimile apparatus through a radio circuit, and a base station fill controller or a mobile station fill controller inserts a fill code into a picture signal transmitted from another facsimile apparatus through the radio circuit such that the scan time of the picture signal is not shorter than the minimum scan line time of the facsimile apparatus connected thereto which is read from a base station terminal ability memory or a mobile station terminal ability memory. The picture signal with the inserted fill code is then delivered to the facsimile apparatus connected thereto.

A digital facsimile communication control method includes a step of selectively determining a data communication mode between a digital circuit switching mode and a packet switching mode. When the digital circuit switching mode has been selected, while optically reading an original to be transmitted, the amount of data stored for transmission is checked and also the time is checked. And, if the amount of data stored for transmission has reached a predetermined amount before the time has reached a predetermined time, the amount of data stored for transmission is formed into a frame of data, which is then transmitted. On the other hand, if the time has reached the predetermined time before the amount of data stored for transmission has reached the predetermined amount, an amount of data which has so far been stored is formed into a frame of data, which is then transmitted.

System and method for minimizing data bottlenecks in Low Data Rate Networks (LDRNs) that communicate facsimile transmissions. An LDRN is a facsimile network having a transmission data rate less than the data rate of the FAX machines serviced by the network. The system and method can be implemented in any type of LDRN, including analog and digital wired LDRNs, as well as analog and digital wireless (e.g., cellular) LDRNs. The system and method involve processing the facsimile transmissions in order to make the data rates of the LDRN and the FAX machines compatible, thereby minimizing any potential facsimile data bottlenecks that may occur in the LDRN due to its slower data rate.
