Abstract:
This invention teaches to the details of an interference suppressing receiver for suppressing intra-cell and inter-cell interference in coded, multiple-access, spread spectrum transmissions that propagate through frequency selective communication channels to a multiplicity of receive antennas. The receiver is designed or adapted through the repeated use of symbol-estimate weighting, subtractive suppression with a stabilizing step-size, and mixed-decision symbol estimates. Receiver embodiments may be designed, adapted, and implemented explicitly in software or programmed hardware, or implicitly in standard RAKE-based hardware either within the RAKE (i.e., at the finger level) or outside the RAKE (i.e., at the user or sub channel symbol level). Embodiments may be employed in user equipment on the forward link or in a base station on the reverse link. It may be adapted to general signal processing applications where a signal is to be extracted from interference.

Abstract:
In a receive node of a wireless network, an iterative multi-user multi-stage interference cancellation receiver is used. The receiver performs code-averaged equalization and chip chip-level code-specific interference over-cancellation on the received signals. This can result in a unified interference cancellation processing, and can avoid cumbersome calculations of code cross correlations that is required in symbol-level interference cancellation. A symbol-level code-averaged desired signal add-back is performed to address the over-cancellation of some desired signals.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, interference suppression is improved by improving convergence criteria. For some embodiments, convergence is improved by employing non-constant alpha-beta-weighting. For other embodiments, convergence is improved by employing successive interference suppression methods that have guaranteed convergence properties.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and radio receiver system for canceling multi-user interference in a single-carrier radio communication system. A front-end receiver such as a RAKE receiver receives a radio signal formatted in a sequence of frames, and outputs a plurality of user signals. A processing selector selects on a frame-by-frame basis, either a first signal processing chain that serially decodes and removes the interference contributions of the user signals, or a second signal processing chain that simultaneously decodes and removes the interference contributions of the user signals in parallel. The processing selector may select the first signal processing chain when the number of user signals is greater than or equal to a threshold value, and may select the second signal processing chain when the number of user signals is less than the threshold value.
Abstract:
Techniques for generalized pilot interference cancellation in a communications receiver. In an exemplary embodiment, a residual pilot is cancelled from a post-traffic cancellation signal following initial first-pass pilot cancellation. Residual pilot cancellation is achieved by adding the first-pass cancelled pilot as earlier stored in memory back to the post-traffic cancellation signal, and pilot filtering the resulting signal to generate an improved pilot interference estimate. In an alternative exemplary embodiment, an arbitrary number of iterations may be applied to generate the pilot interference estimate by successively storing each generated pilot interference estimate in memory.
Abstract:
Aspects of a method and system for a programmable interference suppression module may include receiving a communication signal comprising one or more desired signal, and one or more undesired signals. The communication signal may be utilized to generate estimated channel state information. The estimated channel state information may be formatted for use in interference suppression. A reduced interference signal may be generated from a delayed version of said communications signal and the estimated channel state information, wherein the one or more undesired signals may be attenuated. The reduced interference signal may be formatted for post-processing. The desired signals may comprise WCDMA and/or HSDPA signals, and the undesired signals may be inter-cell and/or intra-cell interference. Further processing may comprise HSDPA processing and/or RAKE finger processing. The communication signal may be a Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) compliant signal.

Abstract:
In a receive node of a wireless network, an iterative multi-user multi-stage interference cancellation receiver is used. After each stage of interference cancellation, interference characteristics change. An adaptive strategy is used in which after each stage of interference cancellation, impairment covariance is parametrically updated and combining weights of the receiver are adapted to reflect the updated impairment covariance.
Abstract:
An iterative reception method and iterative receiver in a mobile communication system are provided. In order to remove inter-cell interference of a signal that is iteratively received in a multi-cell environment, a soft determination value of different cells excluding a specific cell is re-spread to be used. In addition, in order to improve reception performance of the iterative receiver that performs the interference removal by using the soft determination value, channel estimation is iteratively performed on the iteratively received signal by using a soft determination value of a previous order of the specific cell to update a channel estimation value. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce complexity of implementation and effectively remove the inter-cell interference by using the soft determination value.
