Abstract: A haptic actuator comprising a first actuation component and a second actuation component is presented. The first actuation component comprises a first layer of actuatable material and electrodes on opposite sides of the first layer, wherein the actuatable material is configured to deform upon any electrical signal being applied to at least one of the electrodes. The haptic actuator further comprises a second layer separated from the first actuation component by one or more spacers. The second actuation component comprises a magnetized material and one or more electromagnets. Either the magnetized material or the one or more electromagnets are disposed on the first actuation component, and relative movement between the magnetized material and the one or more electromagnets is generated upon any electrical signal being applied to the one or more electromagnets, wherein the relative movement causes vibration of the first actuation component.

Abstract: A piezoelectric element includes a first electrode having a film shape and provided on a base portion, a second electrode having a film shape and opposed to the first electrode on an opposite side of the first electrode from the base portion, a piezoelectric film interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode and partially covered with the second electrode, and an insulation film covering the second electrode and the piezoelectric film with extending over at least a part of an outer edge of the second electrode. The insulation film may cover a whole of the outer edge of the second electrode without covering an inner region of the second electrode. Accordingly, a withstand voltage of the piezoelectric film can be increased.

Abstract: Technologies are described for a piezo electric element for generating vibrations in an electronic device. The piezo electric element comprises a piezo beam and an elongate mass. The piezo beam is sized for positioning in an internal recess of the electronic device and configured for mounting to an internal structure of the electronic device adjacent the recess in a mounting direction generally perpendicular to a thinnest dimension of the electronic device. The elongate mass is coupled to a center area of the piezo beam and having opposing free ends that are free to vibrate in a selected frequency range. An electronic device having a piezo electric element is also described.
