    Abstract: A superconducting cable (1) includes a superconducting cable core (2) and a corrugated pipe (21) storing the superconducting cable core (2). The superconducting cable core (2) has a corrugated pipe (11), a superconductor (12) provided on the outer peripheral side of the corrugated pipe (11), and a heat insulating pipe (23) stored in the corrugated pipe (11) and having a smooth inner peripheral surface. A coolant flows through a flow passage (FP1) formed in the heat insulating pipe (23) and then flows through a flow passage (FP2) formed between an outer peripheral surface of the corrugated pipe (11) and an inner peripheral surface of the corrugated pipe (21).

    Abstract: A method of connecting prefabricated pieces of an HTS cable onsite is disclosed. This quick and reliable procedure of connecting pieces of HTS cable adds to the flexibility of designing and installing power transmission and distribution grids. The joint can also be dissembled such that it can be dismantled for replacing the cable on one side of the connection. The joint can then be reassembled with a new cable in its place. This facilitates repairing the electrical grid in case of local damage to the cable, as well as reconfiguring the grid in case this is required. The complexity of creating demountable HTS cable joints is due to the necessity to create and maintain continuity of several media across the joint along the length of the cable. Various combinations of design options satisfying these requirements are possible.

    Abstract: In order to obtain a highly versatile superconducting cable capable of absorbing differences in thermal contraction amounts that arise between three members, these being a cable core, an inner tube, and an outer tube, and to obtain a superconducting cable manufacturing method of the same, a superconducting cable includes a thermal insulation vacuum tube and a cable core. The thermal insulation vacuum tube includes an inner tube fixed at both ends and having a cooling medium filled inside, and an outer tube disposed at an outer peripheral side of the inner tube with a space between the outer tube and the inner tube maintained at a vacuum, and is configured to include a winding section wound with one or more turns. The cable core is fixed at both ends and disposed inside the inner tube.

    Abstract: A superconductive cable including: a former; one or more superconductive conductor layers provided outside the former; an insulating layer configured to surround the superconductive conductor layers; and one or more superconductive shield layers provided on an exterior of the insulating layer. The superconductive conductor layers and the superconductive shield layers are formed of superconductive wire rods, and each superconductive wire rod includes a metal substrate layer and a plurality of superconducting layers deposited on the metal substrate layer using a superconductive material. In the superconductive wire rods of an outermost superconductive conductor layer among the superconductive conductor layers and an innermost superconductive shield layer among the superconductive shield layers, each of the metal substrate layers and the superconducting layers are disposed in opposite directions.

    Abstract: A method of cooling at least one superconductive cable is disclosed which is arranged in a cryostat having at least one thermally insulated pipe with a free space surrounded by the pipe, wherein the cable and at least one tubular structure are arranged in the free space, and wherein a cooling agent is conducted through the free space from a feeding point located at one end to a distal end. The cooling agent is conducted through the cryostat and the tubular structure exclusively in one direction of the cable until it reaches its temperature of operation and is discharged to the outside at the distal end. After reaching the temperature of operation, the cooling agent is returned from the distal end of the arrangement through the tubular structure to the feeding point.

    Abstract: A cooling system includes a first section of high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable configured to receive a first flow of coolant and to permit the first flow of coolant to flow therethrough. The system may further include a second section of high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable configured to receive a second flow of coolant and to permit the second flow of coolant to flow therethrough. The system may further include a cable joint configured to couple the first section of HTS cable and the second section of HTS cable. The cable joint may be in fluid communication with at least one refrigeration module and may include at least one conduit configured to permit a third flow of coolant between said cable joint and said at least one refrigeration module through a coolant line separate from said first and second sections of HTS cable. Other embodiments and implementations are also within the scope of the present disclosure.
