    摘要: An apparatus and method for controlling recording and reproduction in a video cassette tape recorder are disclosed apparatus is capable of, in a recording mode, separating specific data for speed-varied reproduction from compressed digital video signals, recording them on designated tracks, recording position information of the designated tracks on a control track by an index head or recording position information of recording position-synchronized blocks at the starting portions of the designated tracks recorded with the specific data, and in a speed-varied reproduction mode, controlling a capstan servo speed so as to maintain the travel of a magnetic tape at a normal speed and periodically or non-periodically accelerate or decelerate it where specific data for varied-speed have been recorded periodically or non-periodically on predetermined portions of tracks, thereby making heads travel repeatedly at the normal speed and the high speed and thereby detect continuously the specific tracks for varied-speed. A repeatability of reproduced video at a varied speed is obtained without any deterioration in picture quality, because of recording of the specific data for speed-varied reproduction and the continuous detection of the specific data in the speed-varied reproduction. Apparatus and method for controlling recording and/or reproduction of digital signals to and/or from a digital storage medium, are discussed. According to an embodiment, the method includes receiving digital data, the digital data including video data compressed as at least one of intra-frame and predictive frame, stuffing data, synchronous signals, and relative position information associated with an I-frame; detecting the synchronous signals for decoding the video data; obtaining the video data from the digital data by removing the stuffing data based on stuffing code information; determining a position associated with the I-frame by using the relative position information; determining whether a speed-varied reproduction mode is selected for reproduction of the video data in a varied speed; and reproducing the video data based on the determined position associated with the I-frame, the synchronous signals, and a result of the step of determining whether the speed-varied reproduction mode is selected.

According to an embodiment, there is provided a method for processing a digital signal stored on a digital storage medium, comprising receiving digital data processed to prevent at least one of buffer underflow and buffer overflow and stuffed by stuffing data capable of being detected and removed, the digital data including video data in a first data format converted from video data in a second data format; determining whether a speed-varied reproduction mode is selected for reproduction of the video data in the first data format in a varied speed, the video data in the first data format compressed as at least one of I-frame and P-frame; and reproducing the video data in the first data format in a varied speed based on speed information when the speed-varied reproduction mode is selected, the speed-varied reproduction mode being associated with the speed information, wherein the video data in the first data format is reproduced in the varied speed by processing the video data in the second data format.

    摘要: A technique for reducing the access time in a storage system having serially accessible media. One or more duplicate copies of data are maintained at different offset locations on serial media. When a request is made to read the data, a determination is made as to which copy of the data—either the original data or one of the duplicate copies—will have the shortest access time for accessing the data. Generally, this would be the data copy that will be closest to the data transducer when the tape is positioned for access, such as a tape cartridge being loaded in a tape drive. Once the tape is ready to be accessed, the tape is positioned to access the copy of the data that is in closest linear proximity with the reading transducer. Thus, the copy of the data having the lowest access latency is chosen to satisfy the particular I/O request.

    摘要: A near video-on-demand (VOD) service enabled using a digital video recorder (DVR) for the simultaneous storage and playback of multimedia data. A DVR is connected over a network to a multimedia network source. A VOD selection is requested by the DVR from the network source. A multimedia data signal is received by the DVR from the network source. The data signal contains the requested VOD selection. A first received portion of the received data signal is stored on the DVR. The first received segment is played by the DVR for display on a display device. Simultaneously during the playing of the first received segment, a second received segment of the received data signal is received from the network source and stored on the DVR while the first received segment is played the display device. Thus, the requested VOD selection begins playing on the display device prior to the reception of the entire compressed multimedia data signal so that a requested VOD selection can begin being displayed nearly instantaneously after the request for it is made. A video-on-request (VOR) service is also enabled using a DVR. VOR selection data is received by a centralized database device, such as a network server, from a plurality of users. Each VOR selection data includes at least one requested video selection and video recorder identifying information for identifying each particular video recorder. A transmission priority of requested video selections is determined dependent on the frequency of requests received from the plurality of users. A transmission channel and time is determined based on the transmission priority. DVR control signals are transmitted to automatically tune in the determined transmission channel at the determined transmission time and record the particular video selection.
