Abstract: The present application relates to a virtual reality display device and a control method thereof. The method comprises: acquiring time required for three-dimensional scene rendering when three-dimensional scene rendering is performed on a frame of image to be displayed (S11); and selecting a mode of local backlight dimming according to the time required for three-dimensional scene rendering and a predetermined screen refresh rate, wherein the greater the time required for three-dimensional scene rendering, the less the time required for the selected mode of the local backlight dimming (S12).

Abstract: Systems and methods for user personalization and recommendation schemes that are matched to a user profile and provide a highly personalized, interactive experience for the user on an entertainment platform are disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, the highly personalized and interactive experience is facilitated through information from the user profile comprised of user-inputted information, historical data, and outputs from machine learning engines. In another aspect of the invention, the system is capable of outputting the highly-personalized and interactive recommendations onto a viewing screen while media content is continuously streaming on the same viewing screen.

Abstract: Described herein are methods and a system to correct environmental light reflecting onto a surface of a display. An image is captured by camera which is processed as an image digital map. Light sources on the image digital map are determined based on correlated camera pixel map and display map. Light sources are on the image digital map are augmented by one or more ambient light sensors (ALS) placed on the periphery of the display. Image correction is performed based on the light sources of the image digital map.

Abstract: A low-resolution image is displayed at high resolution and power consumption is reduced. Resolution is made higher by super-resolution processing. Then, display is performed with the luminance of a backlight controlled by local dimming after the super-resolution processing. By controlling the luminance of the backlight, power consumption can be reduced. Further, by performing the local dimming after the super-resolution processing, accurate display can be performed.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a display device comprises a display panel, a light source and a controller. The display panel including pixels, a common electrode, pixel electrodes and a liquid crystal layer containing a polymer dispersed liquid crystal. The light source emits light to the display panel. The liquid crystal layer scatters light when scattering voltage is applied between the common electrode and the pixel electrodes, and transmits light when transparent voltage is applied between the common electrode and the pixel electrodes. The controller applies the transparent voltage in a first period, and applies voltage in accordance with image data in a second period.

Abstract: An image display apparatus is disclosed. The image display apparatus includes a display panel, a backlight unit including a plurality of light sources to output light to the display panel, an image receiver to receive multiple images from a plurality of image sources, and a controller to perform control to display the multiple images received from the image receiver and to independently perform local dimming on each of the multiple images according to multiple image display input, and thus performs local dimming for each multiple image during display of the multiple images.

Abstract: In a method of enhancing the appearance of a digital image on an electronic display, Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) and Screen Brightness (SB) inputs are combined with a calibration input 12 to generate a first strength parameter 22, including an alpha component that is dependent only upon the properties of the display. Then a further, content-based input 24 is also combined to generate a second strength parameter 26, including a beta component that is dependent only upon a content type, or a content quality, or both.
