摘要: An optical information processor according to the present invention comprises a spatial light modulator 1 illuminated by linearly polarized coherent light and a linear polarization detector element 2 for detecting light diffracted by the spatial light modulator 1, wherein a rotatory polarization element of the spatial light modulator 1 is arranged in such a manner that the direction of the major molecular axis 11 thereof at the incident light side substantially conforms to the linear polarization axis direction (Y-axis direction) of the coherent light and the linear polarization detector element 2 is arranged in such a manner that the detecting axis 21 thereof crosses substantially at right angles with the major polarization axis of the zero-order diffracted light 4 included in the diffracted light described above. As a result, it is possible to effectively reduce the zero-order diffracted light component which is not modulated by the spatial light modulator without increasing the entire length of the optical system so much and without requiring excessive electric circuit or processing time.

摘要: An electro-holographic light field generator device is disclosed. The light field generator device has an optical substrate with a waveguide face and an exit face. One or more surface acoustic wave (SAW) optical modulator devices are included within each light field generator device. The SAW devices each include a light input, a waveguide, and a SAW transducer, all configured for guided mode confinement of input light within the waveguide. A leaky mode deflection of a portion of the waveguided light, or diffractive light, impinges upon the exit face. Multiple output optics at the exit face are configured for developing from each of the output optics a radiated exit light from the diffracted light for at least one of the waveguides. An RF controller is configured to control the SAW devices to develop the radiated exit light as a three-dimensional output light field with horizontal parallax and compatible with observer vertical motion.

摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a more robust flat panel display by using the Faraday effect to control light emission from a solid state material so as to form two-dimensional or three-dimensional images. Flux tubes can be configured to define a two dimensional array. Each flux tube is somewhat analogous to a single bubble of a magnetic bubble memory and can define a pixel. At least some aspect of light transmitted through a flux tube can be varied thereby, so as to facilitate the formation of an image.

摘要: A programmable hologram generator comprises a layered structure of a pixelated VLSI chip, a reflective ferroelectric liquid crystal that is physically disposed on the VLSI chip, and a photorefractive crystal that is physically disposed on the liquid crystal. The VLSI chip is controlled by a computer wherein holograms are digitally stored. The reflective state of the individual pixel areas of the liquid crystal are controlled or selected by this computer control of the VLSI chip. A desired hologram is written into the photorefractive crystal by a reference beam that illuminates the photorefractive crystal, and by an illumination beam that is reflected from the selected pixels of the liquid crystal and thereafter interferes with the reference beam. The hologram that is written into the photorefractive crystal is a function of the control of the reflective state of the pixels of the liquid crystal, as this reflective state is in turn controlled by the pixels of the VLSI chip.

摘要: A holographic display includes a pixel array including one or more pixels, a holographic data source, a drive array, and a light source. Each pixel includes a phase-modulating structure and an amplitude-modulating structure. The holographic data source is configured to supply a holographic drive signal. The holographic drive signal includes, for each pixel in each of a plurality of time-varying holographic image frames, a phase component defining phase modulation for the pixel and an amplitude component defining amplitude modulation for the pixel. The drive array is configured to, for each pixel in each holographic image frame, modulate the phase-modulating structure according to the phase component and modulate the amplitude-modulating structure according to the amplitude component. The light source is configured to output coherent light to illuminate the one or more pixels of the pixel array.

摘要: A neural imaging system may include an imaging array, an image data processor operably coupled to the imaging array to process image data received from the imaging array, and a beam angle separator disposed between the imaging array and an object being imaged. The beam angle separator may be configured to separate an object beam reflected from the object being imaged into a plurality of reference beams each having different angular separation with respect to the object beam. The image data processor may be configured to generate image data of the object for each one of the reference beams to correspond to a respective different depth within the object.
