Abstract: A fiber optic cable includes an optical fiber, a strength layer surrounding the optical fiber, and a jacket assembly surrounding the strength layer. The jacket assembly includes a foam. A method for manufacturing a fiber optic cable includes mixing a base material, a chemical foaming agent and a shrinkage reduction material into a mixture in an extruder. The mixture is heated so that the base material and the chemical foaming agent form a foam with shrinkage reduction material embedded into the foam. An optical fiber and strength layer are fed into a crosshead. The mixture is extruded around the optical fiber and the strength layer to form a jacket assembly.

Abstract: An optical cable comprises a swelling yarn, around which several optical transmission elements in the form of micromodules are arranged. A micromodule comprises a bundle of optic fibers, which are surrounded by a sleeve made from a material of plastic. Further swelling yarns are arranged around the optical transmission elements. The optical transmission elements and the swelling yarns are surrounded by a sleeve of paper. The paper sleeve is surrounded by a cable jacket made from a material of plastic. When an optic fiber is exposed, the cable jacket is pulled off, whereupon the paper sleeve tears off and can consequently be easily removed.

Abstract: An optical fiber cable allows for future expansion with blown optical fibers through conduits. The cable assembly includes a central strength member, a conduit, and a buffer tube of optical fibers, all surrounded by an outer jacket. The central strength member may be tubular. While the buffer tube of optical fibers accommodates current capacity requirements, the conduit and possibly the tubular strength member provide paths for blowing additional optical fibers into the cable to meet future capacity needs.

Abstract: The specification describes optical fiber cables designed for microduct installations. The microduct cables are coated with a sheath having particulates added to modify the drag of the outer surface of the cable to air, and thereby facilitate air blown installation. The particulates are nanoclay, silica, alumina, or other suitable solid particles of less than 5 microns. The coating comprises a prepolymer containing the filler, and is UV cured.
