摘要: The invention relates to a system for monitoring a substratum (1) with regard to damage and/or for protecting a substratum (1) from damage. The system comprises: an electrolytically active layer (4), which has a moisture-dependent electrical resistance; at least one electrode pair, the spaced-apart electrodes (3a, 3b) of which are connected to each other by means of the electrolytically active layer (4); and a measuring device, by means of which a property, in particular an electrical quantity of the electrolytically active layer (4) or of the electrodes (3a, 3b), can be measured by using electrodes (3a, 3b) of at least one electrode pair, in particular of each electrode pair, and/or a control device, by means of which a voltage can be applied to the electrodes (3a, 3b) of at least one electrode pair, in particular of each electrode pair. At least one of the electrodes (3a, 3b) of the at least one electrode pair is designed as a planar electrode in the electrolytically active layer (4), in particular the plane of said at least one electrode is oriented parallel to the surface of the substratum (1). The invention further relates to a method for producing a system for monitoring and/or for protecting a substratum, to a method for monitoring a substratum with regard to damage, and to a method for protecting a substratum from damage, in particular moisture damage and/or damage as a result of the penetration of harmful substances.

摘要: A kit for non-invasively determining the presence of non-electrically conductive plumbing in a residence includes an electrical resistance measuring device having a main body and a resistance measuring circuit disposed therein and a display for indicating the value of the resistance measured by the resistance measuring circuit. The kit further includes at least two test probes which are in electrical communication with the resistance measuring circuit of the device. In a method for determining the presence of non-electrically conductive plumbing in the residence using the kit, one of the test probes is connected to an exposed portion of electrically conductive piping and the other is connected to a grounded conductor. When a low measured resistance is observed, as indicated by the device, the operator determines that the residence does not have non-electrically conductive plumbing. When a high measured resistance is observed, the operator determines that non-electrically conductive plumbing is present.

摘要: A line locating device and method that is capable of determining the location of a line even when a significant amount of transmitted signal is coupled to neighboring lines. A device according to this invention includes a transmitter that couples a transmitted signal onto a metal line where the transmitted signal is a first signal having a carrier frequency modulated with second signal of a lower frequency. The device also includes a receiver that receives a received signal from the metal line and evaluates the signal in terms of period and polarity to determine an incoming signal or an outgoing signal. The receiver addresses an appropriate signaling unit in response to the incoming signal or the outgoing signal.
