    摘要: A manufacturing system includes rollers having synchronization marks to indicate complete rotations. Synchronization mark readers read the synchronization marks of the plurality of rollers and output roll synchronization signals. An encoder outputs a position signal indicative of a down-web distance of the web. An inspection system inspects the web and outputs anomaly data identifying positions of anomalies on the web. A synchronization unit receives the position signal from the encoder and the plurality of roll synchronization signals from the synchronization mark readers and converts the occurrence of each of the roll synchronization signals into down-web positions within a coordinate system associated with web process line. An analysis computer processes the anomaly data and the synchronization signals to identify repeated anomalies and to determine which of the rollers caused the repeated anomalies.

    摘要: To measure the period with which a surface defect recurs in a surface of a web-like material moving in its lengthwise direction, surface defects distributed over the surface are detected in that lengthwise direction. Positional data and distance data as to the detected surface defects relative to one another are collected for a predetermined length of the web-like material. The web-like material is determined to have a periodic surface defect appearing with a period between predetermined maximum and minimum periods when the distance data include a distance equivalent to an elemental period that is a whole-number multiple of a fundamental period.

Where a plurality of rolls are in use, the defective roll is identified by providing a downstream inspection station which includes a data processor. When a mark on the strip passes the inspection station, the processor is activated whereby the rolls go through a timed opening and closing sequence. During this sequence, if no mark is observed on the strip at the time when a repeat of the mark would be expected, the lapsed time is compared to a data base and the defective roll is thereby identified.

A user prints the test page and places it atop a print that has a repetitive quality fault, with the reference mark aligned with a first occurrence of the fault. The label of the characteristic mark adjacent a second occurrence of the fault identifies the rotating element probably causing the fault which needs to be replaced.
