    摘要: A cartridge with an expanding bullet that has advantageous terminal effects over an extended range. The expanding bullet including a bullet body including a metal jacket extending from a tail portion to a nose portion and surrounding an interior solid core and defining a forward opening and interior cavity. A tip has an exterior surface substantially flush with an exterior surface of the metal jacket. The tip has a main portion forward of the opening and a tip retention portion that at least partially fills the interior cavity. In certain embodiments the tip retention portion includes one or more fluid entry facilitation means such as a fracture regions configured to, upon impact of the bullet with a target, fracture or deform to expose one or more fluid pathways into the interior cavity and to a forward facing interior surface for initiating expansion of the expanding bullet.

    摘要: The invention relates to a bullet which includes a bullet-shaped body having a forward-facing central cavity with at least one concentric socket formation defining an inverted frusto-conical shoulder and an elongated insert having a longitudinal trailing shaft portion receivable in a mouth of the forward-facing central cavity of reduced diameter. The elongated insert includes an expansion portion being defined by at least one ball-shaped segment extending forward from the trailing shaft portion, of which the expansion portion fits into the concentric socket formation.

    摘要: A projectile has a front portion and a cylindrical portion. The cylindrical portion comprises a cylindrical sidewall having an outer surface and an inner surface. The projectile also has a plurality of depressions in the cylindrical sidewall. The depressions have an outlet adjacent the second end, an inlet toward the first end and a neck area between the inlet and the outlet. A width of the inlet is smaller than a width of the outlet. The depressions at the neck area have a curved sidewall, but a generally straight sidewall between the neck area and the outlet. The surface of the depression extends at a ramp angle from the outer surface of the sidewall at the inlet of the depression toward the inner surface of the sidewall at the outlet.

    摘要: A projectile (14) for an ammunition round (10) for use with a small arms or light firearm comprises an elongated projectile body (16). The projectile body (16) has first and second axially opposed ends (18, 20) respectively and a cavity (20) extending there between. The cavity is able to hold a quantity of propellant (24). A plurality of seals (26) extend about an outer surface of the body (16). The seals (26) protrude radially from the body (16) and operate to form a substantial seal against an inner circumferential surface of a barrel (12) of the firearm. Two of the seals (26b and 26c) are mutually adjacent and spaced apart in a direction of a longitudinal axis of the body to form a seal bound outer surface portion (36) of the body (16). One or more holes (38) are formed in the body (16) enabling fluid communication between the cavity (22) and the seal bound outer surface portion (36) of the body (16). This enables pressure equalization inside and outside of the cavity (22) about the seal bound outer surface portion (36) when the projectile (14) is travelling through the barrel (12).

The outer housing is further arranged, in the launch configuration, to be launched from a barrel of a launching gun or cannon. The outer housing is further arranged, in the flight configuration, to have a bi-tapered shape that is elongated along a fore-and-aft direction and has a longitudinal profile that tapers in both fore and aft directions. The outer housing is arranged to assume an exoatmospheric configuration upon reaching a target distance-from-launch, a target time-from-launch, a target altitude, or a target velocity. In the exoatmospheric configuration, either (i) the outer housing is arranged to release the payload or (ii) the outer housing and payload are arranged in a propulsion configuration. The projectile can include various additional components or adaptations to enable or achieve specific launch objectives.
