The roof according to the present invention includes a side part (102) which has a vertical cylindrical shape, and a cover part (104) which covers an upper end of the side part. A first seating hole (110) is formed in a central portion of the cover part, and a second seating hole (112) is formed in the cover part at a position adjacent to the first seating hole. A small ceiling (160) or a dust collection hood (170) is selectively seated into the first seating hole. A dust collection elbow (180) or a water cooling panel (190) is selectively seated into the second seating hole.

    摘要: An apparatus for treating molten metal includes a treatment vessel for holding molten metal and a removable cover or hood for the vessel. Sealing means are provided between the cover and the vessel to provide a gas tight treatment zone. The sealing means include mating peripheral flanges on the vessel and cover, with the cover flange having two spaced annular sealing strips for contacting the vessel flange and a metal annular splash protector. These sealing strips include a thermal barrier strip formed of a deformable fibrous refractory material to provide a gas tight, a thermal barrier between the interior of the vessel and the exterior and a metal annular strip upon which the cover is supported on the vessel with the cover flange at a fixed distance above the vessel flange and the thermal barrier strip is compressed therebetween to a controlled degree.

    摘要: An assembly for use in mounting a lid on a kiln body. An anchor member is mounted on a side surface of the kiln body defined by a metal outer layer of the body, which anchor member has a horizontal pivot pin fixed adjacent its upper end. Spaced hinge portions are attached to the periphery of the lid and have surfaces defining through openings receiving and being pivotable about the pivot pin, including generally vertically extending surfaces that afford vertical movement of the lid relative to the pivot pin to accommodate vertical expansion of a ceramic lining in the kiln during heating of the kiln. The assembly also includes a force transfer structure including (1) a pivot portion pivotably mounted on the pivot pin and projecting from the pivot pin along the periphery of the lid and above the upper surface of the lid, and (2) a transverse portion attached to an upper part of the pivot portion. That transverse portion has a lid bridging part spaced above the upper surface of the lid and having a distal end attached along the periphery of the lid at a location opposite the pivot portion to afford pivoting of the lid relative to the transverse portion about an axis parallel to that of the pivot pin. The transverse portion also has a force receiving part projecting from the side of the upper part opposite the lid bridging part and having a distal end to which is attached one end of a tensioned spring having its opposite end attached to the anchor member. That spring applies a force to assist manual lifting of said lid through the pivotably attached end of the transfer portion in a way that does not interfere with movement of the lid during heating and cooling of the kiln.

    摘要: In steel-making, there are conflicting processing requirements at different stages of the process. The method and apparatus of the invention creates different processing conditions at different stages of the process. Molten ferrous material (2) is stirred by bubbling a gas therethrough. A refractory ring (10) is first partially immersed in the molten steel within a substantially slag free portion of the surface of the molten ferrous metal to form a bounded substantially slag-free area. The molten steel is then heated by the introduction of exothermically reacting heating agents such as aluminium and oxygen through an oxygen gas line (7) and an aluminium delivery tube (9), respectively. The refractory ring (10) is then removed from the molten steel when the steel has reached a predetermined temperature and air is then excluded from the volume above the molten steel by placing a hood (16) over the ladle containing the molten steel. Sulphur is then removed from the steel.

    摘要: A removable roof for a furnace in which metal is melted has a framework composed of a series of horizontal beams arranged in several layers, with the beams of the lowest layer being parallel to each other and being held in fixed and determined relation with respect to each other by the beams of the next layer. Anchors are attached to the beams of the lowest level, and a cast refractory fills the spaces between and around the anchors so that the refractory forms the downwardly presented face of the roof--the face which is exposed to the interior of the containment vessel. To construct the roof, the framework is fabricated and placed over a horizontal surface, whereupon the anchors are attached and a moldable refractory mix is introduced with the spaces between the anchors. The mix sets up into the refractory.
