Abstract:
A process is provided for creating feed pellets from agricultural residue material having substantially no food value, such as corn stover. The agricultural residue material is harvested and baled for transport to a storage and processing site. The baled agricultural residue material is then shredded and ground, and one or more chemical agents are added to depolymerize the fiber (lignin-carbohydrate) matrix of the agricultural residue material. Agricultural processing byproducts such as distiller's solubles and dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) are added to the agricultural residue material, either before or after the chemical agents are added, to form a combined material. The combined material is then pelletized into feed pellets, which may be transported and stored for later consumption by animals. The process produces a nutritionally enhanced material which is more easily digested than existing feed rations.
Abstract:
A pelletizing process and pelletized product is provided using non-food or limited-feed agricultural residue, such as corn stover and soybean stubble, and for various uses, including energy production, such as ethanol or electricity generation, fuel and feed. The agricultural plant material is harvested and baled. The bales are transported to the processing site for storage or immediate processing. The bale strings are first removed, and then the broken bales are shredded. The shredded plant material is then ground to a small size. The ground material is then pelletized without the use of binding additives, to produce densified pellets of the agricultural plant material. The pellets are cooled and then stored or transported to an end user. Chemical agents may be added to depolymerize lignin in the residue material. Nutritional supplements may be added to the material before pelletizing.

Abstract:
An automated system and method are provided for conveying plant material bales. The system and method retrieves stacked bales from a storage site and places the bales on a conveyor assembly line, wherein the bales are indexed, accumulated, and metered for discharge into a bale shredder. Once the bales are on the conveyor assembly, the bales are automatically moved and arranged without manual intervention.
Abstract:
A method and system for processing biomass material from harvest to pelletizing includes a continuous shredding stage and grinding stage to reduce the size of the material. A fan pulls air through the shredder and the grinder to assist the movement of the biomass material through the shredder and the grinder. Due to the light weight of the biomass material, the material is transported between the shredding and grinding stages mechanically and pneumatically by a combination auger with air assist. The biomass material may include agricultural residues, such as corn stover. The process and equipment eliminates or minimizes damage to the carbohydrates in the biomass so as to maintain pre-grinding cellulose and hemi-cellulose levels.

Abstract:
Apparatus for delivering a bulk material (24) to a location where said bulk material (24) is to be processed, the apparatus comprising means (2) for feeding said bulk material (24) substantially tangentially into a cylindrical vessel (1) via at least two circumferentially spaced apart tangential inlets (14), the vessel (1) being provided at one end with an outlet (10) whereby the bulk material (24) may pass from the vessel (1) to said location while maintaining its configuration.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for automatically sorting and blending coal and other fuel stocks through a computer-controlled process in order to achieve a specified blend of materials. By sorting fuel stocks with different characteristics into different stacking points, an operator can then automatically combine and uniformly blend these sorted fuel stocks to create a variety of blended materials with different properties tailored to the specific needs of the operator or end user. The computer-controlled nature of the process allows for precise blending in an automated and more efficient and reproducible fashion.
Abstract:
A system includes a solid feed pump having a housing, a rotor disposed in the housing, a curved passage disposed between the rotor and the housing, a solid feed inlet coupled to the curved passage, and a solid feed outlet coupled to the curved passage. Also, a solids packing device is coupled to the solid feed inlet of the solid feed pump. The solids packing device includes a first channel configured to receive a solid feed with a first range of sizes, a second channel configured to receive transport assisting particles (TAP) with a second range of sizes. The first range is different from the second range. A third channel is configured to receive and mix the solid feed and the TAP to provide a solid feed-TAP mixture with the TAP filling interspatial spaces between the solid feed. The third channel is coupled to the solid feed inlet.
