    摘要: A freeze tolerant ball valve for controlling the direction of expansion of freezing water within the ball valve is disclosed. The valve includes valve body inlet and the valve body outlet, and a spherical-shaped gate that has an axial fluid passage that extends through the spherical-shaped gate. The spherical-shaped gate can be rotated to block fluid communication between the valve body inlet and the valve body outlet. The valve body also has a first sidewall that is of a first sidewall thickness, and a sidewall having a boss that supports a concave cap that has a bottom wall that is of a bottom wall thickness, the bottom wall thickness being substantially thinner than the sidewall thickness. The cooperation of the passage through the spherical- shaped gate, the first sidewall with its first sidewall thickness positioned opposite to the bottom wall of the concave cap results in a valve that directs the effects of freezing on to the concave cap, which would fail first in the event of freezing. The cap can be easily and quickly replaced in the event of failure.

    摘要: According to one aspect, a fire extinguisher actuator assembly for a fire extinguisher is provided. The fire extinguisher includes a fire extinguisher reservoir and a burst disc that forms a discharge barrier between the fire extinguisher reservoir and a discharge head to retain a pressurized fire extinguishing agent within the fire extinguisher reservoir. The fire extinguisher actuator assembly includes a cutter shuttle assembly having a cutter coupled to a shuttle body. The cutter shuttle assembly is detained within the fire extinguisher proximate the burst disc and biased to form a pressure equalization region between the shuttle body and the burst disc. The fire extinguisher actuator assembly also includes an activation device having a piercing member operable to pierce the burst disc and release pressure from the pressure equalization region, thereby driving the cutter through the burst disc to release the pressurized fire extinguishing agent through the discharge head.

    摘要: A freeze tolerant ball valve is disclosed. The valve includes a valve body that has thickened or strengthened areas for controlling the direction of expansion of freezing water within the ball valve. The ball or spherical gate used with the valve has a passage that is used to control flow through the valve. The valve also includes a removable concave cap with weakened sections, designed to rupture under the pressure of expansion of freezing water. The removable plug is positioned opposite to the thickened or strengthened areas to provide cooperation of the passage through the spherical-shaped gate to direct the effects of freezing on to the concave cap, which would fail first in the event of freezing. The cap can be easily and quickly replaced in the event of failure.

    摘要: An aircraft includes an overpressure valve with a sealing member which is moveable, in response to a first pressure differential across the valve, between a closed position and an open position. The overpressure valve further has a frangible portion, for example, a carbon or sheet metal disc. The frangible portion is arranged to fail in response to a second pressure differential across the valve, the second pressure differential being more than the first pressure differential. Thus the valve is still able to relieve pressure when the sealing member is jammed (due to ice, for example). The valve may be in the surge tank of a fuel tank system.

    摘要: A nuclear engineering plant has a containment, whose interior chamber is subdivided by a wall into a systems chamber and an operating chamber which is accessible during normal operation. The containment ensures a particularly high operational reliability, in particular also in incident situations, in which hydrogen is released in the systems chamber. For this purpose, a number of overflow openings are provided in the partition wall, the respective overflow opening is closed by a closure element of a closure apparatus which opens automatically when a trigger condition associated with the respective overflow opening is reached. Closure apparatuses are provided which open both as a function of pressure and independently of pressure. The closure apparatus furthermore has a closure element containing a bursting film or a bursting diaphragm. The closure apparatus is configured such that it frees the overflow opening automatically when a predetermined environment-side trigger temperature is reached.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a mechanism for preventing damage to the actuator of a hydraulic choke valve in the event of excessive backpressure on the outlet of the choke. The backpressure relief device is applicable to a choke valve which meters flow from a high pressure annular region around the axially reciprocable choke throttling member into a low pressure exit channel coaxial with the throttling member. In particular, a shearable means is used to connect the reciprocable control shank of the actuator to the throttling valve member of the choke valve. In the event of excessive pressure on the exit channel of the choke valve, the shearable means will shear, thereby fully opening the valve and permitting the excessive pressure to escape. The shearable means is readily replaced so that the valve easily can be put back into operating condition.

    摘要: A high-pressure gas cartridge is formed by a metallic container (11) having a neck portion (11a) defining a mouth, a safety closure (12) sealingly closing the mouth, and a quantity of fluid under pressure stored in the container. The closure (12) comprises an inner base layer (14) of a metal formed therein with a pressure relief through-hole (13) and welded to the container neck portion (11a) around the mouth, an outer layer (16) of a corrosion-resistant metal thinner than the inner base layer and an intermediate layer of solder (15) sandwiched between the inner and outer layers (14 and 16) to sealingly secure them together so that the pressure relief through-hole (13) is closed by the thinner outer layer (16). The part of the outer layer (16) facing the pressure relief through-hole (13) is rupturable when the gaseous pressure in the cartridge is raised to an unduly high level.
