    摘要: There is realized a self-aligning roller bearing with retainer that stabilizes the orientation of spherical rollers and prevents these spherical rollers from skewing, and which can be rotated at high speed, and furthermore which enables efficient lubricant feed into pockets 9. By rotating a turning tool 14 as it revolves, the surfaces on both sides in the circumferential direction of respective column sections are processed into concave curved surfaces that oppose a rolling surface of the respective spherical rollers across a pocket clearance into which lubricant oil can be fed. The length of the column sections 8c is less than the length in the axial direction of the spherical rollers, and greater than a half of the length, and an end portion of the side surface in the circumferential direction of the respective column sections 8c projects further in the circumferential direction than an intermediate portion thereof, and the spherical rollers are embraced in the pockets 9.

    摘要: An improved cage is provided for a roller bearing for use in a hub assembly, for example. The cage includes roller pockets which fully entrap the roller in the cage, to maintain the radial and axial position of the roller in the cage. Additionally, the bearing for the hub assembly is formed in part by the hub. One of the inner races is formed integrally with the hub. These constructions allow for the cage/roller assembly to be installed in the outboard position of the hub prior to the hub and hub seal being installed in the hub assembly.

A roller cage comprises axial circumferentially spaced elements 13 of generally U-shaped crosssection, the limbs 15 of the U having end faces 16 for retainer rollers. In Fig. 3, elements 13 are connected by tabs 12 to an annular rim 11. The cage is formed from a disc of sheet metal by forming a ring of I-shaped openings (18, Fig. 2, not shown), removing the centre of the disc by piercing, and using a forming member to orientate elements 13. The cage is positioned in an outer race (21, Fig. 4, not shown) of U- shaped cross-section, the rollers being inserted into the race with the cage before the second limb of the race is bent over, or the rollers are snapped into the assembled cage. The limbs 15 of the elements 13 extend radially with respect to the axis of the abutting roller. The cage may be used in the bearings of an overrunning clutch.
