Abstract: A transition slab connected at opposing ends to a deck compression slab and to an anchoring. The transition slab absorbs the expansions of the deck by means of compressing sheets of polymer, elastomer or the like, that are arranged in parallel spacing and integrated in the transition slab to be oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the road. The transition slab absorbs the contraction movements of the deck limited expansion due to the summation of crack openings in induced cracks. Crack planes are created by forms made of wood, polymer or the like arranged in parallel, spaced relation within the body of the transition slab.

Abstract: A support mat includes a plurality of vertically oriented individual wood members adhesively bonded to each other, each of the individual wood members having wide faces oriented parallel to a direction of a load applied to the support mat, the support mat having outboard wood members, the outwardly facing wide faces of the outboard wood members defining a wide face of the support mat. The support mat also includes least two protective edge members, each protective edge member having an inboard wide face, each of the at least two protective edge members positioned against one the wide faces of the support mat. At least two substantially rigid fasteners extend through and connect each of the protective edge members and adjacent wood members. The wood members, protective edge members, and fasteners define a substantially rigid support mat having a substantially planar wide face.

Abstract: A wood deck connection system and a method for the installation of wooden deck panels using the system is disclosed. The reliable shear withdrawal connection system comprises a headed connector mechanically fastened to a steel, concrete or wooden girder, a wood-based deck panel having a receiver hole bored therein, and a grout agent deposited throughout the receiver hole. The deck connection system enables top-side installation of deck panels and provides improved shear strength, withdrawal resistance, reliability and fatigue behavior of the wooden deck system.

Abstract: The composite structure made of wood and reinforced concrete can be used for bridges, roofs etc. In a bridge, a plate of reinforced concrete carries the roadway and rests on a truss comprising lower and upper chords, transversal girders and struts made of wood and posts made of reinforced concrete. The lower struts are reinforced with steel ties, follow a bent curve and are anchored in lateral end sections. Forces in the wooden parts all extend along the wood's fibre, which increases the maximum load capacity. The concrete posts allow a simple assembly of the wooden elements. The weight of the construction is low, its load bearing capacity high.

Abstract: A multi-cellular, multi-purpose lattice is constructed from a matrix of elongated members which interdect at 3-dimensional joints at which the members interlock to define a completely rigid joint without the use of fasteners or adhesives. Specific implementations of the invention include an equipment support structure and a bridge. Other refinements to the basic lattice construction include diagonal braces, the narrowing of the elongated members between joints for weight considerations, the radiused treatment of member edges and notches, and other details of construction.

Abstract: To produce a pultrusion which can be machined without undue strength loss bidirectional woven fiber fabric is modified to be pultrudable into a high shear strength composite member. In a preferred form of the invention the fabric is pleated in the pultrusion process to create an endless wall of stacked switchback pleated layers which defines a box beam wall in one example, and the shaft of a bolt in another. Products produced by this process have improved isotonic strength qualities over currently produced pultrusions, which are limited to unidirectional fibers, continuous fiber mats, or alternating layers of non-woven 0.degree. and 90.degree. cloth and do not have the shear strength inherent in the pleated configuration.
