Abstract:
The invention provides a method and formulation for cleaning a soiled substrate, the method comprising the treatment of the moistened substrate with a formulation comprising a multiplicity of polymeric particles, wherein the formulation is free of organic solvents. Preferably, the substrate is wetted so as to achieve a substrate to water ratio of between 1:0.1 to 1:5 w/w. Optionally, the formulation additionally comprises at least one cleaning material and, in this embodiment, it is preferred that the polymeric particles are coated with the at least one cleaning material. Preferably, the cleaning material comprises a surfactant, which most preferably has detergent properties. Most preferably, the substrate comprises a textile fiber. Typically, the polymeric particles comprise particles of nylon, most preferably in the form of nylon chips. The results obtained are very much in line with those observed when carrying out conventional dry cleaning processes and the method provides the significant advantage that the use of solvents, with all the attendant drawbacks in terms of cost and environmental considerations, can be avoided.
Abstract:
Dry cleaning and fabric-treatment compositions, methods and articles incorporating the same that are suitable for use in drying machines, such as hot air drying machines found in households, apartments, and laundromats, which are normally adapted to dry wet garments and the like from a washing machine. In some embodiments, the composition includes at least one organic solvent, with the at least one organic solvent forming the greatest weight percentage of the active components in the composition. In some embodiments, the composition also may include water and/or at least one surfactant, emulsifier, perfume, and/or application-specific composition. In some embodiments, the article includes a dispenser from which the composition is selectively dispensed onto a dry garment or other object to be cleaned. In some embodiments, the dispenser includes an internal chamber containing the composition, and the composition is dispensed onto objects prior to placing the objects in a drying machine.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for the treatment of a textile and to products for use therein, wherein the products comprise a a polymer retaining a textile treatment agent, optionally having a liquid impervious backing attached to the polymer, and, optionally, a liquid impervious external wrapping encasing substantially all of the patch, preferably encasing the entire patch.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for cleaning or sanitizing carpet or upholstery. Powder, other solid, or agglomerate compositions include active oxygen compound, surfactant, and builder. The methods of cleaning or sanitizing carpet or upholstery include applying to the carpet or upholstery such a solid (e.g., powder) or agglomerate composition or a use solution of one of these compositions.
Abstract:
A pasty spot-treating composition comprising (a) from 2 percent to 10 percent by weight of a primary alcohol mixture containing at least 70 percent of straight-chain C16 to C18 alcohols, ethoxylated with from 8 to 20 mols. of ethylene oxide, (b) from 0.5 percent to 5 percent by weight of a primary alcohol mixture containing at least 70 percent of straight-chain, saturated C12 to C14 fatty alcohols, ethoxylated with from 1 to 5 mols. of ethylene oxide, (c) from 15 to 30 percent by weight of an alcohol mixture of alcohols having 10 to 18 carbon atoms, containing at least 50 percent by weight of straight-chain alkanols, ethoxylated with from 1 to 4 mols. of ethylene oxide and sulfated, in the form of a salt selected from the group consisting of alkali metal and ammonium salts, (d) from 0.3 percent to 5 percent by weight of a hydrotropic compound selected from the group consisting of alkali metal and ammonium benzenesulfonates, alkali metal and ammonium toluenesulfonates and alkali metal and ammonium xylenesulfonates, and (e) at least 50 percent by weight of an aqueous solution media. The spottreating compositions have a practically constant viscosity, are easily rubbed on textiles and have foam-suppressing properties.

Abstract:
A method for masking human scent on clothing and gear for used for hunting is provided. The method involves filling a breathable bag with natural materials, such as leaves, twigs, needles and other foliage. The natural scent of the materials is transferred to the clothing and gear using a dryer. The natural scent effectively masks the hunter's human scent.
Abstract:
This invention relates to new compositions and methods for cleaning textile substrates, especially carpet and upholstery fabrics. More particularly, this invention relates to liquid compositions that contain absorbent particles in a flowable fluid dispersion, which dries to a soil ladened powder, that can be removed by vacuuming, brushing, and/or laundering methods. The composition includes dispersion stabilizing additives such that the composition is presented as a stable dispersion or as a composition that may be easily redispersed prior to application.
