Abstract:
A system for forming a waterproof seam between to sewn materials. The seam is formed using an adhesive coated thread. A thin strip of adhesive is placed between the two materials at the seam line. As the coated thread is sewn into the seam heat and pressure are simultaneously applied, melting the adhesive coating thereby filling the needle punctures. The melted adhesive coating will also flow into the areas between the needle punctures and between the materials. The heat and pressure applied to the coated thread will also melt the adhesive strip, causing additional adhesive to flow into the needle punctures and the areas between needle punctures.
Abstract:
A hot-air fabric welder for waterproofing tape is invented for selectively welding straight portions and arc portions. The hot-air fabric welder for waterproof tape is comprised of: a lower roller unit including a flat roller portion and a tapered roller portion mounted to the upper end of a support. The lower roller unit is divided into a flat roller body and a tapered roller body for selectively positioning into contact with the upper roller, so that the surface of the lower roller unit contacts the upper roller. A driving means is provided for rotating the lower roller unit. A pivoting means is provided for rotating the support on which the lower roller unit is mounted for selective use of the flat roller portion or the tapered roller portion. A hot-air generating unit is linked to the lower roller unit, driving unit and pivoting unit, and an upper roller is arranged above the lower roller unit.
Abstract:
A side airbag includes a panel having a first left face and a first right face and folded along a fold line to form a chamber, another panel having a second left face and a second right face and folded to form a chamber, wherein the second left face has a left edge part joined to the first left face along a line from an upper edge part to a lower edge part of the first left face at a position closer to the fold line than to a left edge part of the first left face, and the second right face has a right edge part joined to the first right face along a line from an upper edge part to a lower edge part of the first right face at a position closer to the fold line than to a right edge part of the first right face.

Abstract:
The invention is an improved method of sealing a sewn seam (22) on an airbag (10, 60) or other inflatable device and apparatus to accomplish this method. The method has the steps of a) creating a sewn seam, b) applying a seam sealant (90) to an exposed portion of the seam on an exposed surface; and c) locally applying a pressure differential to an opposite exposed surface proximate a portion of the seam on this surface to urge the seam sealant to migrate along the thread from the first exposed surface to regions between the panels to the opposite exposed surface.
Abstract:
AN ESSENTIALLY WATERPROOF ARTICLE IN SHEET FORM FORM USE IN PRODUCING SUBMARINE DIVING GARMENTS COMPRISES A FLEXIBLE FOAM OF CLOSED CELL POLYVINYL CHLORIDE PLASTICIZED WITH A PLASTICIZER WHICH IS INSOLUBLE IN HYDROCARBONS, NOT EXTRATABLE BY DISSOLVING IN WATER AND NOT HYDROLYSABLE. THE PLASTICIZER CAN BE AN ADIPATE, A SEBACATE, A PHTHALATE, A SULFONATE, A PHOSPHATE OR A POLYESTER.
