    摘要: Methods are described for producing sugar from sugar-containing plant material with microbiological control, which includes treating a sugar-containing plant raw material and/or a component derived therefrom, and/or a medium containing the plant raw material and/or the component, with monochloramine. Monochloramine usage in the method can reduce loss of sugar from bacterial consumptions in the processing of sugar-containing plant materials, such as sugar beets, without causing adverse effects on the sugar product, such as the brightness of white sugar.

IN DELIVERING THE SUGARCANE STALK MATERIAL TO THE SEPARATING ZONE, THE STALKS ARE ALIGNED LONGITUDINALLY IN THEIR DIRECTION OF TRAVEL AND ARE CHOPPED TRANSVERSELY THEREOF INTO SHORTED LENGTHS. IF THE CANE CONTAINS TRASH SUCH AS LEAVES AND ROCKS, A FLUID IS DIRECTED THROUGH IT TO REMOVE THE TRASH. AT THE SEPARATING ZONE THE COPPED STALKS ARE SEPARATED INTO THEIR PITH, RIND AND EPIDERMIS COMPONENTS BY OPENING UP LONGITUDINALLY EACH CHOPPED STALK INTO SEPARATE PORTIONS WHICH ARE THEN FLATTTENED. AS THE FLATTENED STALK MATERIAL IS FED THROUGH THE ZON, PITH IS MILLED AWAY FROM ONE SIDE AND EPIDERMIS MATERIAL IS MILLED AWAY FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE. THE COMPONENTS ARE THEN RECOVERED AND CAN BE FURTHER TREATED. THE TREATMENT OF THE PITH COMPRISES A WASHING AND PRESING OPERATION TO EXTRACT THE JUICE FROM THE PITH. THE RIND IS REDUCED INTO SMALLER PORTIONS SUCH AS CHIPS OR SHREDS WHICH ARE THEN CONTACTED WITH WATER

    摘要: The invention provides processes for the extraction of sugar from sugar-bearing plant material such as sugar cane. Accordingly, in one aspect of the invention, a process for extracting sugar from sugar-bearing plant material comprises contacting the sugar-bearing plant material with an extractant solution comprising water and a surfactant; and separating the extractant solution from the sugar-bearing plant material. One example of a suitable surfactant is a poly(alkylene oxide) polymer such as a poly(propylene oxide) polymer, a poly(ethylene oxide) polymer, or a poly(propylene oxide)/(ethylene oxide) copolymer.
