    摘要: A material-feeding roll comprises a cylindrical body being at least partly composed of an elastomeric material having longitudinal apertures disposed therethrough and a plurality of tines extending therefrom.A rotary mounting assembly for a rotatable body comprises a bearing and a hollow axle member. The axle member has a tapered gripping portion for engagement within an aperture carried by the rotatable body. A tightening element is provided and is extendable through the hollow axle member into securing contact with the body to attach the axle member to the body in rotation-transmitting engagement.A material deflecting chute comprises a concave surface and a plurality of walls on the concave surface forming channels which are widened from an intake end of the chute toward a discharge end thereof.An apparatus for aligning and conveying elongate material comprises a base conveyor above which are arranged a series of parallel divider walls, with an aligner belt being arranged to travel along at least the upper periphery of each divider wall toward a discharge end of the base conveyor. The aligner belts are controlled so as to travel at a different speed than the base conveyor to effect alignment of the material during conveyance thereof toward the discharge end of the base conveyor.A toothed gripping roll for controlling the speed of stalk material being milled has non-radially extending teeth to resist impaling and slashing of the fibrous structure thereof.

    摘要: A sugarcane pith and rind separation unit comprising a power driven rind gripping roll, a power driven pith milling roll in close spaced relation, said rolls having surface indentation and being driven at such rotational speeds so as to accept incoming longitudinally split sugarcane stalk halves, flatten them, and mill out the pith away from the rind, and a pith deflecting plate or shroud positioned at the output of the two rolls, said plate having shaped surfaces for causing the rind and pith to travel further on separate paths and having, adjacent the leading edge and closely positioned in the output side of the pinch between the rolls, an elongated cylindrical roller of relatively small diameter and adapted to be driven at a rotational speed such as to effectively move any fibrous material that might cause clogging and binding out of the confined region between the rolls and the deflecting plate and pass to the output. In the preferred embodiment, the roller has formed on its surface, a series of elongated grooves defining sharp gear-like teeth inclined in the rotation direction and effective to cut, shred, break-up, and move the said fibrous material.

    摘要: A separator for separating plant stalks into components includes a feeder in the form of opposite endless conveyors which propel stalks against a splitter. The splitter comprises two oppositely traveling, notched bands which are in contact to define a cutting edge. Stalk sections have at least their pith removed by a milling roll disposed opposite a slower traveling hold-back belt, the latter controlling the speed of the stalk sections. The milling roll includes removable blades which are held in place by wedges and pairs of blades are adjusted by tiltable members at each blade end. The tiltable members move the blades into contact with reference surfaces on the milling roll to define a proper blade location. Stalks are fed to the separator by being dropped onto a chute which guides the stalks into separate feed passages, the latter being maintained throughout stalk travel through the separator. The chute includes passage divider walls having cutters for separating partially cut stalks which may become hung-up thereon. The stalks travel to a spreader station at which vertically superimposed conveyor belts spread the stalks into a single layer. A method for releasing a stuck journal from a roll includes screwing an ejector bolt into an end of the journal until, in effect, it pushes off from a fastening bolt of the journal and against the journal itself to release the latter.

IF THE CANE CONTAINS TRASH SUCH AS LEAVES AND ROCKS, A FLUID IS DIRECTED THROUGH IT TO REMOVE THE TRASH. AT THE SEPARATING ZONE THE COPPED STALKS ARE SEPARATED INTO THEIR PITH, RIND AND EPIDERMIS COMPONENTS BY OPENING UP LONGITUDINALLY EACH CHOPPED STALK INTO SEPARATE PORTIONS WHICH ARE THEN FLATTTENED. AS THE FLATTENED STALK MATERIAL IS FED THROUGH THE ZON, PITH IS MILLED AWAY FROM ONE SIDE AND EPIDERMIS MATERIAL IS MILLED AWAY FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE. THE COMPONENTS ARE THEN RECOVERED AND CAN BE FURTHER TREATED. THE TREATMENT OF THE PITH COMPRISES A WASHING AND PRESING OPERATION TO EXTRACT THE JUICE FROM THE PITH. THE RIND IS REDUCED INTO SMALLER PORTIONS SUCH AS CHIPS OR SHREDS WHICH ARE THEN CONTACTED WITH WATER

    TO EXTRACT ATER SOLUBLES FROM THE RIND. THE EPIDERMIS CAN ALSO BE TREATED TO SEPARATE WAX BEARING MATERIAL FROM CERTAIN OTHER EPIDERMIS MATERIAL.
