Provided is a method of producing a glass-ceramic blank including: preparing plural glass-ceramic powders, laminating the glass-ceramic powders, so that colors of any adjacent layers of the powders are the same as or approximate to each other, and so that said any adjacent layers are different in total light transmittance, and pressure-molding the laminated powders; heating, at 500° C. to 800° C., a laminate obtained by the pressure molding to degrease the laminate; immersing an entire of the laminate after the degreasing in a colorant solution including a single-colored metal ion; and heat-treating, at higher than 750° C. and 1000° C. or lower, the laminate having immersed in the colorant solution.

A method of making a glass ornament with a colorful cracked internal portion mainly fires a pure and transparent raw material as well as a colorful raw material to soften at 1500-1600null C. and at 600-700null C. respectively for different lengths of time; then the fired and softened colorful raw material is cut into small chunks to be wrapped inside the transparent raw material so as to form natural cracks through physical changes between the softness and the hardness; the cracked product is then shaped into molds; after being kept warm for about 5-6 minutes, a transparent ornament with colorful cracked internal portion is accomplished.

In the method for making a ceramic matrix composite article comprising the steps of providing a porous preform for the article formed of a combination of a fibrous reinforcing material and a ceramic matrix material, and thereafter consolidating the preform by the application of heat and consolidation pressure thereto, improved consolidation of preforms of curved or other complex configuration is achieved by applying consolidation pressure to the preforms through the medium of a softened glass.

An apparatus for manufacturing a glass stem for an electron tube comprises a first mold assembly and a second mold assembly for forming the stem therebetween. The glass stem includes a plurality of fillets with a lead-in conductor through less than all of the fillets and at least one dummy fillet without a lead-in conductor therethrough. The first mold assembly includes a universal stem having a mold block with fillet-forming openings therein. A replaceable marker pin is disposed and retained within the openings. The marker pin has a first end and an oppositely disposed second end. The first end has a distinctive geometric shape for contacting the dummy fillet and for conveying intelligible information thereto.

Bonded ceramic matrix composite structures such as ceramic panels or beams, and a method for making them, are described, the structures comprising ceramic facing sheets to which are bonded one or an array of relatively thin-walled, hollow, high-stiffness channeled ceramic support elements, the support elements being of modular design with each support being formed by a continuous composite ceramic wall incorporating multidirectional fiber reinforcement and defining a central channel extending, in the bonded structure, in a direction generally parallel with the ceramic facing sheets.

An apparatus used to manufacture a molded glass stem comprises a plurality of conventional lower stem mold assemblies and a plurality pre-heating, heating, forming, and annealing stations. The forming stations include at least one primary forming station having a primary upper stem mold assembly and at least one secondary forming station having a secondary upper stem mold assembly. The primary upper stem mold assembly includes a primary universal stem mold having primary fillet-forming means formed in a first mold block thereof. The secondary upper stem mold assembly includes a secondary universal stem mold having secondary fillet-forming means formed in a second mold block thereof. The primary fillet-forming means includes a plurality of longitudinal fillet-forming openings formed through the first mold block of the novel primary universal stem mold. A plurality of novel primary inserts are replaceably disposed within the openings in the first mold block. A recess is provided in each of the inserts for contacting the glass of the stem to preshape the fillets. The second fillet-forming means includes a plurality of longitudinal fillet-forming openings formed through the second mold block of the novel secondary universal stem mold. A plurality of secondary inserts are replaceably recessed within the openings in the second mold block. The fillets are shaped by capillary action between the glass of the stem and the wall surrounding longitudinal openings formed in the second mold block of the secondary universal stem mold.
摘要:
A method for manufacturing a discontinuous fiber reinforced glass matrix composites by injection molding using an injection nozzle that separates substantially all of a multifilament yarn into individual fibers resulting in a composite having greater crack resistance. The method comprises impregnating continuous filament yarn with glass matrix powders comprising glass, glass-ceramic powders or a mixture thereof. The impregnated multifilament yarn is chopped into discontinuous lengths and exposed to a temperature sufficient so that the matrix material softens. Pressure is applied to the heated impregnated multifilament yarn sufficient to displace the yarn into a mold through an injection nozzle contoured such that sufficient die-wall shear forces are generated to separate substantially all of the multifilament yarn into individual filaments. A mold pressure is maintained sufficient to prevent relaxation of the composite until the strain point of the glass is reached.

A stem mold includes an improved first (upper) mold assembly and a conventional second (lower) mold assembly. The first mold assembly includes a conventional mold head and a plurality of lead-weights which are attached to one end of the mold head. The first mold assembly is improved by the inclusion of a novel first mold block which has a plurality of fillet recesses therein which communicate through guide openings with a plurality of buffer-pin-wells extending into a cavity in a second surface of the mold block. A novel lead-weight translator is disposed within the cavity in the mold block. The translator has a translator recess formed in one surface and a plurality of lead-weight apertures extending from the recess through the other surface of the translator. A pin holder is disposed within the translator recess. A plurality of pin apertures are formed through the pin holder and aligned with the buffer-pin-wells in the mold block and also with the lead-weight apertures in the translator. A plurality of buffer pins are disposed in the pin apertures and extend into the pin wells. The buffer pins are configured to extend between the lead-weights and the internal portions of the lead-in conductors to retain the external portion of the lead-in conductors within the second mold assembly during the stem manufacturing operation. The buffer pins accommodate lead-in conductors of various internal lengths.
