Disclosed is a system and method for treating wastewater. The system includes a bioreactor which defines a basin for receiving wastewater to be treated; a membrane module in fluid communication with the bioreactor; and a dissolution tank. The tank includes a pressure vessel that contains a portion of the wastewater to be treated and provides a regulated, pressurized gas head space above the wastewater. The tank also includes at least one liquid spray nozzle that permits passage of the wastewater into the gas head space of the pressure vessel and an outlet for discharging the wastewater having a desired gas concentration from the pressure vessel. The system also includes a pumping mechanism for supplying the wastewater to the spray nozzle of the tank such that fluid droplets are formed in the gas head space and the gas contained within the pressurized head space is dissolved into the wastewater.

The grease trap for storing the drainage includes a drain inlet for introducing drainage from a kitchen through a drainpipe and a drain exit for discharging the drainage to a sewer, and accommodates an impeller unit having an impeller which continuously rotates to stir and splash the drainage surface, or a sprinkler unit which continuously sprinkles the drainage onto the drainage surface. The decomposing method comprises the steps of storing the drainage from a kitchen in the grease trap, supplying aerobic microorganisms into the drainage, and continuously stirring and splashing the surface of the drainage using the impeller unit or continuously sprinkling the drainage onto the drainage surface using the sprinkler unit, thereby activating the aerobic microorganisms.

Liquid flow is directed over an infuser device to separate the liquid into a plurality of free-falling curtains disposed to impinge upon a collection pool therebeneath wherein a substantial number of gas bubbles entrained by any particular curtain are acted upon by successive impingements of downstream curtains to effect turbulent interaction, shearing, and reentrainment of such bubbles and substantially increase the residence time thereof in the resulting recombined flow.

A method and apparatus are described for providing improved irrigation to vegetation in open areas such as parks and golf courses, including providing improved microbiotic and nutrient supplies to such vegetation in a non-sterilized environment. In its method aspects, the invention comprises combining in an aqueous slurry effective amounts of first and second microorganisms, enzymes and nutrients, allowing the combined microorganisms to grow in a closed reservoir to reach levels of concentrations of the first and second microorganisms effective for irrigation, enhancement and nutrition of vegetation, and then applying the concentrated materials to the vegetation in a water slurry in quantities sufficient to effectively irrigate and provide nutrition to the vegetation and to provide it with protection against harmful microorganisms. Apparatus is described for the performance of the method, and includes an enhancement vessel adapted to retain the combined materials for a time sufficient for the first and second microorganisms to increase in concentration to provide a significant degree of nutrition and protection against harmful microorganisms to vegetation to which they are applied; and a conduit to convey the slurry to the vegetation and to apply it to the vegetation in effective quantities. Typical of the applications for which this invention can be used is the irrigation, protection and nutrition of vegetation for golf course, parks and other landscaped areas, to enhance the growth and physical condition of the vegetation of the course or park.

An arrangement for the destruction of foam building up on a sewage surface in form of activated sludge, in which a reaction vessel holds the suspended foam. The reaction vessel has perforated plates which may be raised and lowered. The reaction vessel is furthermore provided with an inlet pipe connection for untreated sewage, and a discharge pipe for the treated suspension. The reaction vessel is closed off at its upper side by a plate member which has at least one flow-through opening. A nozzle located within an enclosure, is connected to this flow-through opening. The nozzle has a lower wall and an upper wall disposed at an acute angle relative to one another. The lower wall and the upper wall of nozzle, furthermore, have adjacent edges forming an outlet opening of the nozzles. One of the walls of the nozzle is pivotably movable relative to the other wall.

A method of aerating slurry involves the use of a screw conveyor operating in a tubular casing having an inlet and an outlet. The inlet has access to the air above the level of the slurry so that as the conveyor is rotated air is admitted through the inlet and discharged at the outlet, which is below the surface level, into the body of the slurry. The screw conveyor may be in two portions of opposite hand so that one portion discharges air and the other portion discharges slurry at a common outlet intermediate the two ends of the casing.
