A mixed solution subsequently undergoes a first preheating step, a second preheating step, a distilling step and an evaporating step to remove peroxide, water, oxygen and insoluble impurities, so as to obtain the first gas containing sulfur trioxide, sulfuric acid and hydrogen oxide. And then, the sulfur trioxide is absorbed by a sulfuric acid solution, thereby forming the high purity sulfuric acid.

A method for separating arsenic and heavy metals in an acidic washing solution which contains both arsenic and heavy metal, more particularly in a washing solution which is formed in copper smelting and contains sulphuric acid, comprises a separation process section, in which arsenic and at least one primary heavy metal are separated from one another. The separation process section comprises a processing step, in which hydrogen peroxide H2O2 is added to the washing solution, and the separation process section comprises a precipitation stage, in which the washing solution is admixed with a sulphide precipitation reagent, causing the at least one primary heavy metal to precipitate in the form of a metal sulphide. The processing step in this system is carried out before the precipitation stage.

The magnesium reacts with sulfate ions to form a high quality magnesium sulfate solution.

A process for the reduction in fluoride concentration in a fluoride-contaminated sulphuric acid which process comprises treating said sulphuric acid with a silicon compound to produce silicon tetrafluoride, and removing said silicon tetrafluoride to produce a purer sulphuric acid having a substantially reduced fluoride concentration. The process is of particular use for the removal of fluoride from waste sulphuric acid in the copper smelting industry to meet environmental concerns.

A process for the production of zinc and sulphuric acid comprising leaching solid zinc sulphate with an aqueous liquor to form a leach liquor, electrolysing the latter to obtain zinc and a spent electrolyte comprising sulphuric acid, concentrating the sulphuric acid content in the spent electrolyte to precipitate the bulk of the residual zinc sulphate as a solid, separating the latter and so obtaining a sulphuric acid filtrate, and recycling said precipitated zinc sulphate to the electrolysis step in the next cycle by dissolving it in the aqueous leach liquor fed to the electrolysis step. Preferably the starting material (zinc sulphate) is obtained by a controlled oxidation (sulphating) roast of zinc sulphide ore or zinc containing residues obtained in zinc manufacturing processes.
