Abstract: A propeller for a marine propulsion device configured for use on a boat has a hub extending along a longitudinal axis and a plurality of blades, each blade having a blade root attached to the hub and extending radially outwardly from the longitudinal axis toward a respective blade tip. Each blade has a polymer-based core. Each blade is coated with a metal coating that extends from the blade root radially outwardly toward the blade tip. The blade tips are not coated with the metal coating. A method of manufacturing the propeller is also included.

Abstract: A tangential flow machine can be operated both as electric propulsion and as a generator, having a jacket housing which can have flow passing around it on an outer side, the profile of which is formed on a first front-side opening, and tapers to a second front side, on which a second front-side opening is formed. Between the two front-side openings, there extends a flow path along a main axis, and with an electrical machine, which on the jacket housing has a stator and a rotor that is supported so as to rotate within the stator. The rotor defines a free rotary axis and has a rotor ring and an arrangement of rotor blades which each extend from the rotor ring, radially to a free edge and the free edges of the rotor blades, in the projection direction parallel to the main axis, delimit a free circular surface. With this, provision is made that the rotor blades are formed by baffle plates, which extend in the direction of the main axis over the entire axial length of the rotor ring.

Abstract: A shape shifting foil alters the shape of a fluid foil contour by rotating a leading edge structure. A skin that forms the fluid foil contour is at least partially attached to the leading edge structure, and is wrapped around the leading edge structure so two edges of the skin form the trailing edge of the fluid foil. The two edges forming the trailing edge slide with respect to one another, thereby permitting the skin to shift when the leading edge structure is rotated.

Abstract: A marine propeller has an outer hub having a central axis and a blade having a blade root attached to the outer hub and extending radially outward from the outer hub toward a blade tip. The blade has a leading edge and a trailing edge. The propeller has a diameter between about 15 inches and about 17 inches and a pitch between about 14 inches and about 24 inches. The blade has a progressive rake angle such that a first local rake angle at the blade root is less than a second local rake angle at the blade tip. A combination of the diameter, pitch, and progressive rake angle provides a marine vessel to which the marine propeller is coupled with minimum drag while the marine vessel is operating at less than a maximum vessel speed. A method of designing a propeller is also disclosed.
