摘要: The present invention provides a thermal recording material having a thermosensitive layer comprising single phase diffuser polymer particles. Each of the diffuser polymer particles has a refractive index at the center thereof (RIcenter) different from a refractive index at the surface thereof (RIsurface), and a continuous refractive index gradient, sometimes referred to as GRIN technology. The diffuser polymer particles may have a RIcenter of from 1.46 to 1.61 and a particle size of 0.85 to 15 microns. Additionally, the thermal recording material of the present invention may also include heat deformable particles and a binder. The present invention also provides a method for providing an image by subjecting selected portions of a recording material such as that described above to a physical agent selected from the group consisting of heat, pressure, and combinations thereof, sufficient to reduce the opacity of said selected portions.

摘要: A radiation-sensitive medium comprises hydrophilic polymer particles, the particles comprising a thermally softenable hydrophobic polymer, a hydrophilic polymer and a bonding compound capable of chemically bonding to the hydrophobic polymer and to the hydrophilic polymer. Th radiation-sensitive medium further may comprise a substance capable of converting radiation into heat. The radiation-sensitive medium is aqueous-ineluable when coated and dried, and becomes hydrophobic under the action of heat. The polymer particles are made by polymerization of at least one hydrophobic monomer and at least one bonding compound in the presence of the hydrophilic polymer. The radiation-sensitive medium may be provided as a coatable composition to be applied to substrates to form a processless radiation-imageable lithographic printing precursor. The processless radiation-imageable lithographic printing precursor so created may be imaged using absorbed radiation that is imagewise converted to heat, resulting in areas of hydrophobic property, while unimaged areas retain their hydrophilic property. This allows the latent image so formed to be employed in creating a negative-working lithographic printing master. The negative-working lithographic printing master so created is irreversible, does not require a substrate of controlled hydrophilicity and provides great toughness in the exposed areas. The radiation-sensitive medium may be coated on-platesetter or on-press onto a suitable substrate, including the drum of the press. It may also be coated off-press on a suitable substrate to create a precoated processless radiation-imageable lithographic printing precursor.

摘要: A direct-to-plate method of lithographic printing is disclosed which enables to recycle the lithographic substrate of the printing master. The method comprises the steps of (a) making a negative-working imaging material by coating on a hydrophilic substrate a coating solution comprising hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles and a hydrophilic binder; (b) making a printing master having ink-accepting areas by image-wise exposing the imaging material; (c) applying ink and fountain solution to the printing master; (d) removing the ink-accepting areas from the printing master by supplying a aliphatic or aromatic compound having a structure comprising at least 6 carbon atoms. The above steps are preferably carried out on-press.

摘要: Imaging material comprising a layer which comprises deformed particulate organic polymeric material such as flattened spheres, which has a memory for its original particulate shape and which is capable of recovering its original particulate shape upon the application of energy above a certain threshold. Examples of suitable particulate material include polystyrene, as it is obtained by emulsion or perl-polymerization in the presence of crosslinking agents, or polyethylene in particulate form, which has been crosslinked by the application of high energy radiation.

摘要: A process for reproducing an original having visible light absorptive image markings on a light transparent background by exposing to visible light passing through the original a normally water-removable heat-sensitive recording layer which consists essentially of a hydrophilic water-removable binder having generally homogeneously distributed therethrough finely divided particles of a hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer normally solid at room temperature together with finely divided material capable of absorbing visible light and converting it into heat and is otherwise generally transparent. The exposure is for a time lasting no longer than 10.sup.-.sup.1 second to visible light of an intensity of at least 0.3 watt, sec. per sq.cm. and sufficient to heat the areas of the layer corresponding to the transparent background areas of the original to reduce the water removability thereof but not sufficient to heat the areas of the layer corresponding to the image areas of the original to reduce the water removability thereof. The exposed layer is washed with an aqueous liquid to remove the areas corresponding to the image areas.
