    Abstract: A printing apparatus includes: a printing unit configured to eject a color material ink and a reaction liquid; a controller configured to control the printing unit such that the printing unit prints a first test pattern in which a plurality of patches are arranged; a first obtaining unit configured to obtain an optical density for each of the plurality of patches; a second obtaining unit configured to obtain a specular reflection intensity for each of the plurality of patches; and a first generation unit configured to generate correction information based on the optical density obtained by the first obtaining unit, the specular reflection intensity obtained by the second obtaining unit, a first target value of the optical density for a first input value of the color material ink, and a second target value of the specular reflection intensity for a second input value of the reaction liquid.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for use in generating calibration parameters for a printing apparatus comprising a plurality of print modules are disclosed. The method comprises printing a first plurality of test patches for each print module of the plurality of print modules, analysing the first plurality of test patches to identify at least two clusters of print modules, wherein each cluster comprises a sub-group of print modules having substantially similar performance, printing a second plurality of test patches comprising an extended calibration test patch set for each cluster of print modules, the second plurality of test patches being distributed across the print modules of the cluster, and analysing extended calibration test patch set for each cluster to determine a calibration parameter for the printing apparatus.

    Abstract: A method of printing a test pattern in a printer includes printing a related-information acquisition pattern as the test pattern in a particular state by driving a plurality of drive elements of a liquid ejection head to eject a liquid droplet from a plurality of nozzles based on a temperature detected by a temperature sensor. The related-information acquisition pattern is a pattern for acquiring related information relating to at least one of an ejection amount and a liquid droplet landing position of the liquid droplet ejected from each of the plurality of nozzles. The liquid droplet landing position is a position at which the liquid droplet ejected from each of the plurality of nozzles lands on a recording medium. The particular state is a state where a temperature difference between the temperature detected by the temperature sensor and an actual temperature of the liquid ejection head is constant.

    Abstract: A method for determining characteristics of an ink is described. The method includes subjecting the ink of an inkjet printing system to an alternating signal of a first frequency to generate response signals from the ink, where the response signals include at least a response voltage signal and a response current signal. The method further includes comparing the response voltage signal to a predetermined voltage threshold, to generate a voltage phase signal, and comparing the response current signal to a predetermined current threshold, to generate a current phase signal. The method also includes tuning at least one of the predetermined voltage threshold and the predetermined current threshold to determine a balance point, and identifying a first relative phase difference between the voltage phase signal and the current phase signal, where the first relative phase difference is indicative of characteristics of the ink corresponding to the first frequency.
