Abstract:
A modular press suitable for use in the manufacture of EWC products may include a plurality of frame modules coupled together and aligned along a feed path axis. Each frame module may have a generally planar body supported on a corresponding pair of bases, an elongate aperture, an upper and a lower platform within the aperture, and a platen between the platforms. Optionally, the ends of the aperture may be curved. A first actuator system may be operable to move the platen from a raised position to an intermediate position, and a second actuator system may be operable to press the platen downwardly from the intermediate position onto a workpiece within the aperture. Some modular presses include conveyor rolls and a third actuator system to raise and lower the conveyor rolls. In some embodiments, the actuator systems may be pneumatic actuator systems. Corresponding methods and systems are also described herein.

Abstract:
Implementations of the present invention relate to systems, methods, and apparatus for applying heat and pressure to a laminate assembly and to form a unitary product therefrom with increased processing efficiency. One implementation includes an apparatus that can decrease processing time by directly heating and cooling platens that press the laminate assembly. Additionally, the lamination press can allow the platens to flex about the laminate assembly, thereby applying substantially uniform pressure to the laminate assembly.
Abstract:
A pneumatic press with high slide acceleration and velocity is equipped with an arrangement trigger mechanism for holding the slide, upper die, and punch in place until air pressure force in tons is exerted against slide opposite the upper die and punch. When the trigger mechanism releases the slide, upper die, and punch in a short travel the velocity is very high. This will permit the punch to enter the part material at the strain rate of the material, thus eliminating burrs, reducing fatigue initiation sites on the part material surface where the punch goes through the material. Also will permit forming parts of uniform thickness, impact powder titanium to form sheet, and stamp parts against flat sheet of polyurethane with punch having the shape of the part.
Abstract:
A safety interlock and retraction mechanism for all types of presses comprising a sensing or activating valve which does not apply full force to a press ram until the ram displaces to the expected work material thickness and a pneumatically operated retraction mechanism which eliminates the need for a return spring. The art differentiates between the thickness of an operator's finger relative to a work material thickness in order to promote safety. The art further provides an increased press ram force by eliminating the return spring force subtracting from the ram force.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for joining at least two substrates together, especially to form an optical data carrier, are provided. Substrates are disposed in a spaced-apart manner between two plates that are disposed opposite from, and are movable relative to, one another. At least one of the plates is connected to a flexible membrane. At least the plate to which the flexible membrane is connected is moved in such a way that a pressure difference is produced on opposite sides of the membrane.
Abstract:
The invention provides a multi-funtion diaphragm press having upper and lower platen assemblies separated by a flexible membrane. One of the platen assemblies is movable between a first position whereby it does not contact the flexible membrane and a second position whereby the flexible membrane is contacted to provide a rigid membrane.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for applying variable pressure to a moving surface, such as a moving web of corrugated paperboard. The apparatus includes a frame secured to a fixed structure and located proximate to a heated platform. A number of pressure applicators having movable pressure-applying feet are mounted on the frame. The moving surface moves between the heated platform and the feet of the pressure applicators. The pressure-applying feet are movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to the moving surface. This allows the pressure-applying feet to press the moving surface against the heated platform as the moving surface moves between the heated platform and the feet of the pressure applicators. Each pressure applicator may be independently controlled, typically by an inflatable air bladder, to apply variable pressure to the moving surface. Alternatively, several pressure applicators may be grouped into commonly regulated zones so that each zone of pressure applicators is independently controlled to apply variable pressure to the moving surface.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for applying variable pressure to a surface. The apparatus includes a frame secured to a fixed structure and located proximate to the surface. A foot is mounted for movable relation relative to the frame in a direction substantially perpendicular to the surface. The pressure applicator is connected to a pressure device which biases the applicator away from the surface. The present invention also includes a variable pressure source connected to a control device for varying the pressure supplied to the pressure applicator that is ultimately applied to the surface.
Abstract:
An oil filter crushing apparatus includes a frame on which is mounted a filter platform configured to receive a used oil filter for crushing. An air spring actuating device is secured within the frame, and a ram is secured to a lower end of the air spring. A control valve regulates the flow of a pressurized gas into the air spring which then forces the ram toward the filter platform to crush the filter. A safety pneumatic circuit prevents inadvertent actuation of the ram.
