Abstract:
Method of calendering the continuous ply of reinforcing threads, during which: said ply of reinforcing threads is positioned between a continuous upper sheet of rubber and a continuous lower sheet of rubber, said sheets of rubber having a width greater than the width of the ply of reinforcing threads, so that the two lateral parts of said sheets of rubber which are not vertically aligned with the ply of reinforcing threads form selvedges. The assembly formed in the preceding step is introduced into the nip of a calendering comprising at least two rolls, so as to cause the rubber to penetrate the spaces between the reinforcing threads. Prior to the ply of reinforcing threads and the sheets of rubber being introduced into the nip of the calender, the two selvedges of one of the sheets of rubber are turned up on themselves.
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming a continuous preparation ply of the type used to make vehicle tires from preparation ply sections having nonmetallic cords. An infeed conveyor successively feeds the preparation ply sections to a butt splicing machine that joins the ends of the two preparation ply sections to form a butt joint. A gum strip applier receives the continuous preparation ply from an outfeed conveyor and applies a gum strip over the butt joint. A method is provided for forming a continuous preparation ply by first automatically forming a butt joint, and thereafter automatically placing a gum strip on the butt joint.
Abstract:
A rubber sheet joining apparatus includes a cutting unit for cutting a ribbon of rubber sheet reinforced with cords to generate rubber sheet strips having different lengths; a sheet overlapping unit for overlapping and joining the rubber sheet strips having different lengths to make an overlapped and joined strip. First holding members hold a front end portion of a following overlapped and joined strip. Second holding members hold a rear end portion of a preceding overlapped and joined strip. Support guides movably support the first holding members relative to the second holding members. An operating unit moves the first holding members relative to the second holding members to butt-join the side surfaces of two successive overlapped and joins strips held respectively by the first holding members and the second holding members to generate a ply sheet.
Abstract:
A hand tool for closing splices and correcting flaws arising during tire fabrication includes an elongated body member having a butt end, a front end, a top, and at least one side at a substantially right angle to the top; and a handle member is disposed at the butt end of the body member. An arm is fixedly attached to the handle or an interior side of the elongated body member and a metal wheel is rotatably attached to a protruding portion of this arm. A gripping knob is disposed atop the front end of the elongated body member for enabling downward pressure on the wheel.
Abstract:
The green tire manufacturing apparatus includes an unwinding apparatus for unwinding a tire component in web form wound on a reel; a transfer apparatus for transferring the unwound tire component longitudinally through a first conveyor located upstream and a second conveyor located downstream, wherein the first and the second conveyors are drivable independently; a cutter device located on the first conveyor and intended to cut the tire component at a predetermined angle slanted against the transferring direction; a separating apparatus located between the first and second conveyors and intended to separate the downstream cut portion of the tire component from the upstream subsequent tire component portions; a guide pan apparatus for guiding the cut component portion with giving widthwise positioning thereof; and a green tire building drum on which the tire component cut in a predetermined length is supplied from the guide pan apparatus and attached thereon.
Abstract:
Apparatus to cut breaker material as it is conveyed from a roll to a rotatable drum and to align the cut breaker material comprising a conveyor to move the breaker material along a path of travel from the roll to the drum with the longitudinal centerline of the material overlying the longitudinal centerline of the conveyor; cutter means located along the path of travel to sequentially cut the material fed from the roll into strips of a predetermined length with the cut being at an angle with respect to the longitudinal centerline of the material to thereby produce an acute angle at the tip of the leading edge of each strip of cut material; and edge alignment means positioned on the side of the cutter means remote from the roll to return the tip of the cut material into proper alignment position with the opposed side edges of the cut material being at a predetermined, equal distance from the longitudinal centerline of the conveyor.
Abstract:
An overlapping layer (24) of a first body of deformable material is pressed by an edge (78) of each of a plurality of blade members (42) into an overlapped layer (26) of a second body of resilient material forming slots (74) in the second body with ribs (88) of the first body displaced therein. The blade members (42) are removed while the ribs (88) are retained in the slots (74) and gripped by the surrounding resilient material. The blade members (42) may be adjustably clamped in a cartridge (40) which is removable from the splicing apparatus (10) for adjustment and replacement of the blade members (42) so that they conform to the surface profile (82) and splice interface line (80) of the bodies to be spliced.
Abstract:
A motorized tool for joining self adhesive plies of unvulcanized rubber, the tool having a pincer-like structure provided with resilient means for urging a portion of a first arm of the pincer itself towards a portion of a second arm; the said portions supporting pairs of rolling bodies facing one another, and the rolling bodies carried by the said first arm being constituted by two discs converging towards one another and towards the other arm and provided with a peripheral crown of teeth meshing with one another, with one of said discs also meshing with an output pinion of a motor mounted within the said first arm.
Abstract:
Apparatus for automatically joining and winding up cord strips for tires includes a stationary table with a joining device movably mounted above the stationary table. The joining device comprises a carriage carrying a spring loaded roller which is spring loaded in a downward direction toward the stationary table, and a pair of pulleys located behind the spring loaded roller, relative to the direction of movement of the carriage, the pulleys being obliquely mounted at an angle toward each other for engaging respective ends of cord strips to be joined to draw the respective ends together when the roller and pulleys are rolled over the ends of the cord strips to be joined during movement of the carriage. The spring loaded roller presses down the ends of the cord strips to be joined on the stationary table and the pulleys draw together the pressed down edges of the cord strips to join them by the adhesiveness of the strip edges combined with the pressure imparted thereto by the obliquely mounted pulleys.
Abstract:
A device for coating wire tire cord on a spool with an agent for increasing the bond between the wire tire cord and rubber material used in the production of tires. The device is composed of at least one hollow pipe which forms a chamber in which the spools of wire are coated. The pipe is declined to help facilitate movement of the spools of wire through the pipe and allow drainage of any trapped liquid from the pipe. A hydraulic cylinder is provided adjacent the mouth of the pipe to engage and push a number of spools, in tandem, through the pipe in axially aligned, end-to-end relation. Means are supplied for circulating a liquid, containing the agent, into the chamber and for alternately creating a vacuum and pressure within the chamber to increase penetration of the liquid coating into the interstices between segments of wire cord wrapped on the spools. Other means are provided for circulating a heated fluid in the chamber to dry the liquid coating on the wire of each spool being treated.
