摘要： An automatic splicing apparatus and methods thereof are provided herein for splicing together two ends of a sheet of tire material on a tire building drum. The apparatus comprises a frame, a splicer foot assembly, and a splicer roller assembly. The frame is configured to support the apparatus relative to the drum. The splicer foot assembly and the splicer roller assembly are independently longitudinally translatable relative to the frame. The splicer foot assembly includes a splicer foot having forward lower preparation rollers and rearward lower splicer rollers, and upper preparation rollers configured to operate in coordination with the forward lower preparation rollers to pull the two ends of the sheet of tire material together over the splicer foot. The splicer roller assembly includes upper splicer rollers configured to act in coordination with the rearward lower splicer rollers to splice the two ends together.

摘要： A method forms a butt joint between ends of first and second plies and splices the first and second plies together. The method includes the steps of: positioning a first splice edge of a first ply at a first location; positioning a second splice edge of a second ply at a second location, the second splice edge being left bare; wrapping a gum strip around the first splice edge such that the first gum strip forms a U-shaped structure in section that allows the first gum strip to extend from a first planar side of the first ply over the first splice edge to a second opposite planar side of the first ply; not wrapping a gum strip around the second splice edge; placing the first splice edge in abutting relationship to the second splice edge; and stitching the first splice edge to the second splice edge such that stitches each extend from the first planar side of the first ply, through the gum strip, to the first planar side of the second ply.

摘要： An apparatus for forming a continuous preparation ply of the type used to make vehicle tires from preparation ply sections having nonmetallic cords. An infeed conveyor successively feeds the preparation ply sections to a butt splicing machine that joins the ends of the two preparation ply sections to form a butt joint. A gum strip applier receives the continuous preparation ply from an outfeed conveyor and applies a gum strip over the butt joint. A method is provided for forming a continuous preparation ply by first automatically forming a butt joint, and thereafter automatically placing a gum strip on the butt joint.

摘要： A method is disclosed for accurately and readily forming a continuous band of rubberized fabric having transversal reinforcing metal elements by butt-splicing wherein a first and second piece of rubberized fabric having transversal reinforcing metal elements are positioned such that the initial end of the second piece is a predetermined distance from the terminal end of the first piece on a common plane with the reinforcing metal cords running parallel to the ends of the pieces, butt-splicing the pieces, without overlapping, by mutually approaching the pieces, obtaining a uniform accumulation of the rubber of the rubberized fabric about the reinforcing cords as well as a local thickening of the latter at a zone symmetrically situated with respect to the contact surface of the ends and whose width is proportional to the pre-established distance wherein the pieces are bound by the operating parts of the splicing apparatus, releasing the pieces from the operating parts of the splicing apparatus and winding up the continuous band on a collecting drum. An apparatus for producing the continuous band is also disclosed where the operating parts have a base element and a movable ledger capable of locking the pieces of rubberized fabric on a common plane by a series of fingers.

摘要： A reinforced tire fabric comprising an elastomeric body portion in which a plurality of helically formed, single filament wires constitute the reinforcing. The helix delineated by each reinforcing wire has a relatively long lay and the diameter thereof is preferably no greater than three times the diameter of the wire itself. The wire filaments may be cold formed into their respective helices by being drawn through relatively rotatable orifice means-adjacent filaments preferably being of opposite hand-and encapsulated into a continuously extruded ribbon that is manipulated and appropriately severed to form the fabric. The ribbon may be wound into an annulus that is subsequently slit into a ply strip, or successive lengths of the ribbon may be joined into a ply strip. By either approach the bias of the reinforcing filaments in the finished tire may be preselected.

摘要： The installation comprises a preparation station for preparing strips by cutting a straight wire band, a jointing station arranged to butt-joint the strips obtained from the preparation station so as to form a reinforcing ply, and a station for turning over strips, which is interposed between the preparation station and the jointing station. The installation also comprises a first receiving surface, arranged to receive a strip, a second receiving surface associated with a reversing device which is arranged to transfer a strip from said first receiving surface to said second receiving surface, by thus turning over the strip. A gripping member is arranged to take a strip from the first or second receiving surface in order to allow the jointing station to selectively construct a reinforcing ply with a left-hand ply handle or with a right-hand ply angle.
