摘要: In at least one embodiment, a molding method for producing a molded article is provided. The method may include introducing polymer and fiber separately into an extruder in a first ratio to produce a first extruded material having a first fiber content and in a second ratio to produce a second extruded material having a second fiber content different from the first fiber content. The method may further include filling a first region of a mold with the first extruded material and a second region of the mold with the second extruded material. The extruded material may be formed as blanks for use in compression molding or may be introduced into an injection chamber for use in injection molding. The method may be used to form molded articles having a plurality of regions having different fiber contents.

摘要: An alternate polymer extrusion method and system reduces “drool” effects that detract from precise control over the content of two or more materials in an extrudate along its length. In the system, two or more extruders direct melt to two or more gear pumps. Control of the speed of the gear pumps controls the amount of each material emergent from the pumps, proceeding to a convergence in the paths from the pumps and thence to a die. Melt in each path between each pump and the convergence tends to expand and drool into the convergence as its associated pump is slowed and stopped. To prevent this, in the die, a constriction in each path just upstream of the convergence greatly reduces drool past that point by requiring a much greater pressure to force the melt past the constriction. The increased pressure required increases compression and expansion of the melt between the pump and the construction as a pump starts or increases in speed, on one hand, and stop or decreases in speed, on the other hand. Compensatory pump speed changes are made to counter this effect.

摘要: An adjustable variable flow restriction element and an extruder containing the same are provided for mechanically controlling the bulk density of an extruded material. The adjustable flow restriction element is located in an extruder proximate to the die of the extruder in position to partially block the downstream flow of material through the extruder. The adjustable flow restriction element is structured to be capable of assuming one of a plurality of uniquely flow restrictive positions, where the degree of restriction of flow controls the bulk density of an extruded material. A method of mechanically controlling the bulk density of an extruded material by restricting the flow of the material through an extruder is also provided.

摘要: A screw shaft, with associated first kneading elements rotates in a screw extruder, with further kneading elements being provided in the housing and being situated between the first kneading elements, with the further kneading elements being rotatable in the direction of rotation of the extruder and being radially displaceable in lateral and axial directions of displacement, with a back-pressure element being axially displaceable at the outlet end of the extruder screw via a known cylinder-and-piston unit thereby making it possible to alter the cross-section from the screw extruder outlet openings, with a rotating cutter cutting the product, discharged from the outlet openings, into predetermined lengths, wherein several support rings serve to support the screw in the screw extruder housing, with the rotatable further kneading elements being jointly adjustable via a driven rack, and the extruder housing being split into pivotable upper half and a fixed lower half, so that the further kneading element can be easily replaced. In addition to the screw extruder or expander structure, a process for controlling the quality of a feedstuff product is also set forth together with an installation or system for carrying out the noted process in the noted extruder.
