Deposits, such as coal, tar sand, heavy crude oil and/or minerals are excavated from an underground formation layer (4) by:—inserting a chain cutter string (11) into a 1st section (8, 9) and a control cable (12) into a 2nd section (10) of a T-, V-, U-, or L-shaped channel assembly (8, 9, 10) traversing the layer (4);—connecting the control cable (12) to the chain cutter string (11) at a branchpoint (13) of said 1st & 2nd sections (8, 9 & 10); and—pulling the chain cutter string (11) in a continuous or oscillating manner through the first section (8,9) while continuously pulling the control cable (12), such that the chain cutter string (11) carves deposits from the layer (4) and the control cable (12) optimizes the performance and reduces the risk of breakage of the chain cutter string (11).

The present invention presents a novel apparatus and a method of demolishing a biological shield wall of a nuclear reactor using a concrete cutter device working on a wire saw, said apparatus comprising a concrete cutter device consisting of a driving part for a wire saw and a concrete cutting part attached on the engaging receiver of the driving part, a core boring machine to be attached interchangeably on the receiver in the place of the cutting part and a carrier truck to carry the wire saw driving part of said cutter device, further the concrete cutting part having a pair of vertical rods supported on a table movable vertically and adjustable in a distance of the rods and, at the bottom end of the rods, supporting pulleys and guide rollers for disposing the wire saw are provided.

A wire drive apparatus for the wire saw which is favorably used, particularly for cutting the structures of reinforced concrete with the wire saw and movable on the base surface such as the surface of the road or floor without using cranes is disclosed. This wire drive apparatus is characterized by that in addition to the wire drive apparatus for the wire saw which consists of a carriage, a wire drive pulley for endless circulation of the cutting wire and a pulley drive means for turning the wire drive pulley that are installed on the carriage, rails laid on the surface of the road or floor, front wheels and rear wheels that hold the carriage so as to allow it traveling on the rails and a wheel drive means for turning the front wheels and the rear wheels, it is constructed by providing supplementary front wheels and supplementary rear wheels that hold the carriage so as to be movable on the base surface and that they have the points of contact with the base surface at a lower level than those of the front wheels and the rear wheels, at least one pair of them are provided with a steering means and when the front wheels and the rear wheels are engaged with the rails, the supplementary front wheels and the supplementary rear wheels float above the base surface or when the supplementary front wheels and the supplementary rear wheels touch the base surface, the front wheels and the rear wheels are made to float above the base surface.

The opening method to drill openings with required largeness on thick reinforced concrete walls such as a reinforced concrete dam body is presented.This method comprises (1) the process of drilling cable penetrations in the depth direction on each corner around the opening domain on a reinforced concrete wall, (2) the process of penetrating cutting cable through cable penetrations and to carry out wire sawing with water injection, (3) the process to break and remove the separated core.According to this method, the required opening for thick reinforced concrete walls such as a reinforced concrete dam body which has been regarded as difficult if not impossible, can be safely and exactly drilled with the smallest number of processes, having no bad influence on the surrounded wall.

In a wire saw drive apparatus having a carriage, a wire drive pulley mounted on the carriage, pulley drive means for rotating the wire drive pulley to drive an endless cutting wire, a pair of adjust pulleys for guiding a tensile side and a loose side of the cutting wire, and carriage drive means for moving the carriage and maintaining the cutting wire under a desired tension, the improvement comprises elastic means mounted between an adjust pulley supporting body for guiding at least the tensile side of the cutting wire and the carriage, for receiving a force applied from the cutting wire to the adjust pulley, and a guide pulley mounted on the carriage near the adjust pulley for guiding the tensile side of the cutting wire, for guiding the cutting wire into S shape fashion in cooperation with the adjust pulley.The elastic means instantaneously absorbs an instantaneous increase in cutting wire tension through the adjust pulley, and suppresses cutting wire damage or breakage and cutting wire slip relative to the wire drive pulley. The guide pulley serves to allow the above elastic means to function stably and effectively.
