    摘要: A method of producing a ceramic molding having a desired shape involves extruding a ceramic material that has been pressure-fed into a resistance pipe. By using a production apparatus including a screw type extruder and mold, connected to the distal end of the extruder through the resistance pipe, the ceramic material is pressure-fed from the extruder into the resistance pipe. The resistance pipe is heated or cooled at its periphery so as to control the shape of the ceramic molding extruded from the mold.

    摘要: An apparatus for making and depositing bricks includes a nozzle having an inlet opening, an outlet opening, and a plurality of walls surrounding the outlet opening. At least one of the walls is configured to retract relative to the other walls. When a first brick is deposited, all of the nozzle walls are in the extended position. When subsequent bricks are deposited, one or more of the nozzle walls are retracted so that the form for the subsequent bricks is provided by the walls that are in the extended position and the sides of the already-deposited bricks. In this manner, the nozzle is configured to deposit the bricks directly adjacent to each other without any space or intervening material between them. The bricks may be deposited in a heated state and they meld together as they cool. The nozzle is particularly advantageous for paving autonomously in otherwise inaccessible locations, such as surfaces on the moon or other planets.

    摘要: Extrusion systems and methods with temperature control are disclosed. The ceramic batch material is flowed through a front section wherein the temperature of the batch material is locally adjusted through its perimeter at multiple locations. The temperature-adjusted ceramic batch material is then extruded through the extrusion die to form the extrudate. Temperatures of the extrudate at multiple outer surface locations having different azimuthal positions are measured. The temperature adjustment of the ceramic batch material is then controlled in a first feedback loop to control the shape of the extrudate based on the measured outer surface temperatures. The front section can also be cooled using a second control loop.

    摘要: A thin-walled honeycombed structure is made by extruding a plastically deformable batch, including ceramic materials mixed with water and a methyl cellulose extrusion aid, through a die apparatus comprising an extrusion barrel, an extrusion die extending transversely across the barrel and a mask located around the periphery of the outlet face of the die for inwardly moving peripheral portions of the extruded structure to form an integral skin of material. The temperature of the batch as it is placed into the barrel is 2*-25*F. (preferably 5*-15*F.) above the gel point of such batch. The extrusion barrel is maintained at a temperature 0*-15*F. (preferably 5*-12*F.) less than the temperature of the ceramic batch placed in the barrel (and preferably not less than 5*F. below the gel point of the batch) to form a uniform skin of desired thickness on the honeycombed structure.
