Abstract:
A hand-held sanding apparatus has an adjustable flexibility. The sanding apparatus includes a flexible handle with a plurality of preformed rod channels. One or more rods are configured for insertion into the rod channels, wherein the one or more rods adjust a flexibility of the sanding apparatus. A flexible base member is attached to a lower surface of the flexible handle and includes a precisely smooth bottom surface configured for attachment to an abrasive material. The flexible base member may comprise a polycarbonate material, and the flexible handle may comprise a rubber material.
Abstract:
An apparatus can comprise a body and a first portion. The first portion can be coupled to the body and moveable therewith. The first portion can comprise a rigidifying material and a layer. The rigidifying material can be positioned in a chamber defined by an envelope formed of a gas-impermeable material. A pressure within the chamber can be variable between at least a lower pressure state and a higher pressure state. In the higher pressure state the material is relatively flexible, and in the lower pressure state the material can be relatively less flexible than in the higher pressure state. The layer can be manipulatable by the rigidifying material. More particularly, the layer can have a first state when the pressure within the chamber is in the higher pressure state. In the first state, the layer can be formable by the target surface to take on a desired shape that can be substantially a match of the target surface. The layer can have a second state when the pressure within the chamber is in the lower pressure state. In the second state, the layer can maintain the desired shape and can be substantially less formable than in the first state.
Abstract:
A scrubbing device with a protective handle is disclosed by this invention. The protective handle protects the fingernails, knuckles and digits of a user during use. The protective handle is flexible and malleable. The user grips the protective handle and rolls it over their fingernails, digits, upper knuckles and lower knuckles and tucks their thumb either behind or in front of the handle. The protective handle then protects the user's fingernails, knuckles and digits during use. The scrubbing device with a protective handle may have a protective pad or a protective coating. The scrubbing device with a protective handle may have an attached scouring accessory. Or, the scrubbing device with a protective handle may have a protective pad or a protective coating and an attached scouring accessory.
Abstract:
An elastomeric sanding block conformable to curved or flat surfaces includes a Shore A hardness ranging from about 30 to about 90, and is made from ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, low-density polyethylene or an admixture thereof. The polymer or admixture ranges from about 35 to about 70 percent of the sanding block composition by weight. A blowing agent is present in an amount that ranges from about 1.5 to about 4.5 percent of the composition by weight. The elastomeric sanding block may be formed by combining the polymer or admixture and other components under heat to yield a feedstock, thermoforming the feedstock in a mold to yield a foamed material sheet, and cutting the foamed material sheet.

Abstract:
A sander especially suited for sanding curved surfaces. The sander has an elongate body and a grinding plate movably attached thereto. A power unit drives the grinding plate. At least two lever beams are attached to the elongate body. Each of the lever beams has two opposite ends. The grinding plate is attached to ends of lever beams using flexible connecting elements to allow the grinding plate to move relative to the sander body.

Abstract:
A sanding sponge having an adhesive and/or a method for assembling the same may be used with a tool to sand a surface. The sanding sponge may have a body constructed of a resilient material and/or an abrasive may be secured to the the sanding sponge. The adhesive may be on a top surface of the sanding sponge and/or may be a pressure sensitive adhesive. The adhesive may attach a label, the tool and/or the like to the sanding sponge and/or may allow the label, the tool and/or the like to be removable from the sanding sponge.

Abstract:
A sheet-like abrasive article includes a resilient backing sheet having opposed major surfaces and a continuous abrasive sheet affixed to the backing sheet. The abrasive sheet includes an abrasive support layer with abrasive particles arranged thereon, thereby defining an abrasive surface. A sanding tool assembly including such a sheet-like abrasive article is also disclosed.
