Abstract: A blade for mounting on a rotor disc of a gas turbine engine includes platform segments between a airfoil and blade root and extending laterally from the blade, the platform segment having a curved profile defining a platform recess on a root side of the platform segment, the recess configured to cooperate with recesses of adjacent blades to define a blade pocket. A recessed region is defined in a rear surface of the blade root, and is configured to receive a complementary projection of the rotor disc upon mounting the blade on the rotor disc. The recessed region has a surface configured to abut a corresponding surface on the projection of the rotor disc to form a face seal. Methods of manufacturing such a rotor disc and of sealing a circumferential joint between such blades and the rotor disc are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system for forming a nozzle inlet of a nozzle includes a nozzle body and an electro-chemical machining (ECM) assembly. The nozzle body includes an external surface. The nozzle body forms a nozzle orifice and a manifold passage. The nozzle orifice extends through the nozzle body between and to a nozzle inlet and a nozzle outlet. The nozzle inlet is disposed at the manifold passage. The nozzle outlet is disposed at the external surface. The ECM assembly is installed on the nozzle body. The ECM assembly includes a machining tool and a flexible line. The machining tool is disposed at the nozzle inlet. The flexible line is attached to the machining tool. The flexible line extends through the nozzle outlet from the machining tool to an exterior of the nozzle body.

Abstract: Electric discharge electrodes are disposed at equal intervals along a circumference about a rotary shaft, and provided so as to be capable of being brought into and out of contact with vanes such that one electric discharge electrode corresponds to one vane. The electric discharge electrodes each have an electrode surface along a surface to be machined of a corresponding one of the vanes. After the electric discharge electrodes each move radially inward toward the rotary shaft, the rotary shaft rotates and electrochemical machining is thus performed while the electrode surface and the surface to be machined are close to and thus face each other.

Abstract: In order to easily form curved holes and straight holes of desired shapes, an electrochemical machining tool of the present invention comprises a tool body including: an electrode made from an electrically conductive material in a cylindrical shape extending along an axial line and having flexibility, an electrolytic solution flowing through an internal flow channel of the electrode toward a tip side; and an insulating layer coated on an outer circumferential face of the electrode so as to expose the tip of the electrode. A fluid outflow hole is formed in the tool body, passing through the tool body in a radial direction and guiding the electrolytic solution flowing through the flow channel outward in the radial direction, and the electrochemical machining tool further comprises a tube-shaped member selectively opening and closing the fluid outflow hole.

Abstract: A machining method for three-dimensional open flow channel using high-speed arc discharge layered sweep, which arranges an axial line of an installation shaft of a tool electrode with six degrees of freedom to be perpendicular to an axial line of a to-be machined work piece in an arc discharge process, with the tool electrode sweeping in a closed path in a plane or a curved surface perpendicular to the installation shaft, wherein the path of the sweeping satisfies: a space of an enveloped space being formed by the tool electrode moving in the path and being coincident with a removed portion of the work piece does not exceed a preset machined cavity of the flow channel. The present invention is based on high-speed arc discharge of hydrodynamic arc breaking and realized layered milling and surface machining for three-dimensional open flow channels.

Abstract: Electrodes for and methods of electrical discharge machining are provided. For example, a method for forming a feature in a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component comprises repeatedly advancing an electrode into and retracting the electrode from the CMC component until a desired depth is reached, where the electrode has a head end, a tip end, and a shaft extending from the head end to the tip end. The shaft has a first side and a second side each recessed inward such that the head end and the tip end are wider than the shaft. A method for forming a feature in a CMC component also may include feeding a dielectric fluid into the feature utilizing the recessed sides. In some embodiments, electrodes may include a shaft extending from a head end to a tip end and a central plane, where the shaft is recessed widthwise toward the central plane.

Abstract: A drilling tool for use in machining a conductive work piece that includes a forward electrode tip including an outer radial portion and an inner radial portion. The outer radial portion includes a forward face, and the inner radial portion extends from the forward face of the outer radial portion. The drilling tool further includes a dielectric sheath that extends circumferentially about the outer radial portion, at least one side electrode coupled to the dielectric sheath, and a protective sheath that extends circumferentially about the dielectric sheath. An opening is defined in the protective sheath such that the at least one side electrode is at least partially exposed.
