    摘要: A tapping method includes engaging a front end of a tap with a prepared hole formed in a workpiece. The tap is provided at a tapping tool attached to a rotating mold indexing device that includes a control motor M. The rotating mold indexing device is rotatably provided at a punch press. The tapping method also includes rotating the control motor M positively to rotate the tap positively when the front end of the tap is engaged with the prepared hole. The tapping method also includes stopping positive rotation of the control motor M and rotating the motor reversely, thereby to detach the tap from the prepared hole of the workpiece, when it is detected that the control motor M has rotated a determined number of times or that a predetermined time has elapsed.

Both ball screw mechanisms rotate a central drive gear which causes rotation and axial advance of a pitch adapter sleeve axially advanced by a threaded engagement with a fixed pitch adapter hub, the movable pitch adapter carrying a tap holder, which rotates and advances a tap inserted therein. A striker pad and acceleration spring reduces the shock loading of the unit when the press engages the upper housing piece.

    摘要: Tapping apparatus for tapping holes in workpieces is provided with a tap assembly that includes a tap fitted to a lower tip end of a vertical lead screw, there being means including a bushing for rotating the lead screw thereby to vertically advance and retract the tap relative to the a workpiece hole. Power operating means are provided to rapidly advance and retract the lead screw independently of rotating advance/retraction of the lead screw so as to more quickly locate the tap proximal the workpiece hole allowing that tapping commences with lessened need for lead screw rotation as a means of effecting lineal advance of the lead screw. This lessens the tapping cycle time and results in increased production rate with the apparatus as well as lengthening tap life. The power operating means also functions to rapidly retract the lead screw and tap upwardly from the workpiece on completion of the tapping which also increases production particularly where the workpiece includes heightened structure adjacent the hole location so that more rapid tool clearance is achieved permitting quicker workpiece indexing to present a next to be tapped hole at a tapping station.

    摘要: An in-die tapping tool having particular application to a progressive die method for threading holes in a sheet metal workpiece. The tapping includes a transmission system comprising a threaded shaft assembly and a planetary roller nut. The roller nut is adapted to move axially along the shaft assembly in response to an impact force applied to the tapping tool during the downstroke of the press. The movement of the roller nut causes the shaft assembly to rotate, which rotation is imparted to a threaded lead screw to cause the lead screw to simultaneously rotate and ride axially along a threaded wall of a hollow cylindrical body. The rotational and axial movements of the lead screw through the cylindrical body are transferred to the tap to correspondingly induce a rotation and advancement of the tap towards the workpiece having the holes to be threaded. However, the axial location of the rotatable shaft assembly relative to the workpiece remains unchanged.

    摘要: A tapping attachment for threading a relatively large number of holes through a sheet metal part at a relatively low cost per hole. The tapping attachment includes a thrust bearing assembly which is aligned with a turret-type punch press or the like and movable in response to an axially directed force generated by the punch press. The axially directed force applied from the press to the thrust bearing assembly is transferred to a spline shaft. The spline shaft is rotated wihin and moved linearly relative to a screw threaded roller nut, whereby the axially directed force is converted into a rotating force for advancing and turning a tap at high speeds of rotation. A nitrogen reservoir is provided so that a supply of gas is available for returning the thrust bearing assembly and the spline shaft to their initial positions in order that a new hole can be tapped in response to another axially directed force. Also provided is an oil reservoir so that a supply of oil is available for lubricating and cooling the tap via an oil spout.

    摘要: A tapping machine has a base plate fixed to one of the platens, a spindle extending along a spindle axis between the platens in the closing direction of the press actuating the machine, and a nut threaded on the spindle. The nut is normally rotatable about the spindle axis on the base plate and the spindle is fixed nonrotatably about the spindle axis on the other platen so that relative displacement of the platens rotates the nut in the base plate. An element displaceable on the base plate along an element axis but nonrotatable on the base plate about the element axis carries a plurality of tap holders generally fixed relative to the element axis in the element and rotatable in the element about respective tap axes parallel to the element axis. Respective taps are fixed axially and rotationally in the holders. A rotary transmission is provided that operatively connects the rotary nut and the holders for synchronously rotating the holders and their taps at a predetermined tap rotation rate about the tap axes on rotation of the nut about the spindle axis. An addition an axial-feed transmission connects the rotary nut and the element for synchronously axially advancing the element with the taps and tap holders on displacement of the platens from the outer position to the inner position through a predetermined tap stroke equal to a fraction of the press stroke and at a rate such that the taps are rotated through substantially only one revolution while being advanced through a distance equal to the pitch.
