    摘要: A punch including a shearing edge formed on an outer periphery of the punch, a cutting edge formed on the distal end of the punch and at least two ramp surfaces provided between the shearing and cutting edges. Each of the ramp surfaces extend at an angle from the distal end to a recessed portion of the shearing edge. The shearing edge, cutting edge and ramp surfaces cooperate to partially form a hole in a part and retain a slug in the hole. A method of forming a hole and a slug control system for a hydro-piercing operation is disclosed.

    摘要: A transfer assembly (22) for moving a work-piece (26) between stations of a hydroforming and/or hydrotrimming assembly. The transfer assembly (22) includes left and right posts (40, 42) spaced from and parallel to each other and extending vertically. A left top arm (56) and a left bottom arm (58) and a right top arm (62) and a right bottom arm (64) extend in spaced and parallel relationship with each other transversely to the posts (40, 42) to distal ends (60, 84). An upper rail (80) extends between the distal ends (60) of the top arms (56, 62) and a lower rail (82) extends between the distal ends (60) of the bottom arms (58, 64). The rails (80, 82) each include a plurality of part grabbers (86, 88) for engaging the work-piece (26). A transfer module interconnects each arm with the associated post for moving the arms (56, 58, 62, 64) vertically up and down and for moving the arms (56, 58, 62, 64) in and out. A rail transfer module (74) interconnects each arm with the associated rail for moving the rails (80, 82) side-to-side.

    摘要: A sheet hydroforming method is disclosed wherein two stacked metallic sheets are clamped between a pair of upper and lower dies 10, 11 and a fluid is introduced and pressurized between mating surfaces of the metallic sheets, causing the metallic sheets to bulge into a space defined by die cavities 10b and 11b. A thru-hole 11d for introducing the fluid is formed in one of the dies so as to lead to a holding surface of the die, while a pierced hole for introducing the fluid is formed in one of the metallic sheets in a portion of the one metallic sheet which portion is in contact with a holding surface 10a (10b) of one of the dies, the pierced hole being positioned with the thru-hole 11d, then the fluid is introduced in a pressurized state between mating surfaces of the metallic sheets from the thru-hole through the pierced hole, thereby causing the metallic sheets to bulge. According to this method, a pressurized fluid can be introduced between the mating surfaces of blanks easily without leakage of the fluid. Not only the efficiency of the sheet hydroforming method but also the dent resistance of a formed part can be improved.

The method utilizes an electro-hydraulic forming (EHF) tool to form a channel within which a flange is cut out in a trimming operation. A combined flange/trim die may be provided in which both a channel forming operation and a flange trimming operation may be performed. A manufacturing system for fabricating a part by forming a channel in a peripheral portion and cutting the channel area to form a flange. The method also relates to a die for an EHF tool that defines a channel-shaped recess and has a trim edge for cutting a flange into the channel.

The mount plate can be positively positioned in any one of three different positions by appropriately supplying or removing pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic fluid ports on the cylinder. The provision of appropriate positive stops corresponding to each desired position avoids the necessity for complex and/or expensive hydraulic control mechanisms. The cylinder is believed to be particularly suited for performing piercing operations, involving a negative pierce, in hydro-forming operations.

    摘要: A method for simultaneously producing at least two workpieces, separated from one another, by internal high pressure forming. A blank is inserted into a forming tool with at least two negative molds for each of the workpieces. There is at least one parting gap between each of the at least two respective negative molds and extending around each workpiece in the circumferential direction. Each parting gap defines two spaced-apart cutting edges. When the blank is acted upon by internal high pressure it comes into full contact with the forming tool inner wall. An especially simple construction is obtained for the forming tool if the cutting edges are exposed during the forming and if the blank, in the region of the at least one parting gap, penetrates into the latter during the forming, such that the cutting edges cut out a section between two respective workpieces.
