Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of polycyclic aliphatic dialdehydes by hydroformylation of polycyclic aliphatic diolefins in the presence of synthesis gas over an organophosphorus ligand modified metal catalyst system having a transition metal of the 8th-10th subgroup, wherein the hydroformylation is carried out by means of a water-soluble diphosphine or triarylphosphine complex catalyst at a pressure of greater than or equal to 0.5 MPa and less than or equal to 10 MPa and at a temperature of greater than or equal to 70° C. and less than or equal to 150° ° C. in a homogeneous liquid reaction phase, the homogeneous liquid phase comprising at least one non-aqueous solvent, diolefin and/or mono- and/or dialdehydes thereof as reaction products and an aqueous catalyst solution, the proportions of these components in the solution being controlled so as to obtain a single-phase solution under the reaction conditions.

Abstract: Provided is an acetic acid production method that enables smooth reduction and/or increase of acetic acid production with easy operation and can industrially efficiently, stably produce acetic acid with maintained quality even when the acetic acid production volume is changed. The acetic acid production method includes a carbonylation step in which methanol is reacted with carbon monoxide in a continuous system in the presence of a catalytic system, acetic acid, methyl acetate, and water, where the catalytic system includes a metal catalyst and methyl iodide. The carbonylation step employs two or more reactors disposed in parallel.

For example, each adamantyl moiety (Ad) attached to the phosphorus atom can be independently selected from the group consisting of adamantane, diamantane, triamantane and derivatives thereof. Transition metal complexes comprising PAd3 ligands are also provided for catalytic synthesis including catalytic cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract: A catalyst for hydrosilylation is disclosed. The catalyst comprises a complex having a certain formula. A redox-switchable catalyst system for preparing the catalyst is also disclosed. The redox-switchable catalyst system comprises a redox-switchable catalyst and a reducing compound. The reducing compound reduces a formal oxidation state of the redox-switchable catalyst to give the catalyst, where the former is generally inactive in catalyzing hydrosilylation and the latter is catalytically active. Abstract: A process for performing a continuous gas/liquid biphasic high-pressure reaction, wherein a gas and a liquid are introduced into a backmixed zone of a reactor and in the backmixed zone the gas is dispersed in the liquid by stirring, injection of gas and/or a liquid jet, a reaction mixture consecutively traverses the backmixed zone and a zone of limited backmixing, and a liquid reaction product is withdrawn at a reaction product outlet of the zone of limited backmixing, wherein the reactor comprises: an interior formed by a cylindrical vertically oriented elongate shell, a bottom and a cap, wherein the interior is divided by means of internals into the backmixed zone, the zone of limited backmixing and a cavity, a first cylindrical internal element which in the interior extends in the longitudinal direction of the reactor and which delimits the zone of limited backmixing from the backmixed zone, backmixing-preventing second internal elements in the form of random packings, structured packings or liquid-permeable trays arranged in the zone of limited backmixing and a third internal element which in the interior extends in the longitudinal direction of the reactor and is open at the bottom, wherein the third internal element forms the cavity in which gas bubbles collect and do not escape upwards, thus preventing the volume of the cavity from being occupied by liquid and reducing the reaction volume. The reaction volume of the reactor used in the process can be reversibly reduced in simple fashion. The invention further relates to a process for adapting the reaction volume of a reactor suitable for performing a gas/liquid biphasic high-pressure reaction having an outlet for a liquid reaction product in which an internal element is arranged so as to form a cavity open at the bottom in which gas bubbles collect and do not escape upwards, thus preventing the volume of the cavity from being occupied by liquid and reducing the reaction volume.
