摘要: A cuff for use an as artificial sphincter includes an inflatable chamber and a backing. The inflatable chamber includes opposing inside and outside surfaces and inflated and deflated states. The backing is adjacent the outside surface of the chamber. The inside surface of the chamber includes two or more grooves that define the location of fold lines of the inflatable chamber when the inflatable chamber is in the inflated state. The inflatable chamber and backing are configured to surround a duct of a patient with the inside surface of the chamber facing the duct and the grooves extending substantially parallel to the duct.

摘要: An apparatus includes a bodily implant configured to be implanted into a body of a patient. The bodily implant includes an inflatable member, a sensor, and a controller. The inflatable member is configured to be disposed within a portion of the body of the patient and place pressure on a portion of a body of th patient. The sensor is operatively coupled to the inflatable member and configured to detect a fluidic pressure within the inflatable member. The controller is configured to receive pressure data from the sensor during a transition between a deflated configuration and an inflated configuration of the inflatable member and detect, based on the received pressure data, atrophy of the portion of the body of the patient.

摘要: A wirelessly powered inflatable medical implant system includes a medical provider software application, a patient external controller and a MR-Conditional, nonferrous pump in reservoir implant. The medical provider software application programs the patient external controller for the patient to transmit wireless power and control signals to circuitry in a pump in reservoir implant. In response, the pump in reservoir implant, containing a fluid reservoir and pump package submerged therein, transfers fluid from the reservoir through tubing, and into one or more inflatable medical implants. Submerging the pump package within the reservoir simplifies surgery in males and pump placement in females and provides pump package heatsinking to limit implant overheating.

摘要: A cuff of an artificial urinary sphincter system includes a frame and an inflatable balloon. The frame has a first end spaced away from a second end by a gap, where the gap extends from a top edge to a bottom edge of the frame to provide an opening in the frame. The frame has a frame length measured along an interior surface of the frame from the first end to the send end of the frame to define a first quadrant that extends from the first end for a distance of about 25% of the frame length and a second quadrant that extends from the second end for a distance of about 25% of the frame length. A first inflatable balloon attached to the interior surface of the frame in the first quadrant of the frame.

摘要: To increase the resistance to liquid and substance flow through a lumen of a tubular organ, a cuff comprising a flexible, mesh base member is appended to an exterior wall of the tubular organ such that it only partially surrounds the tubular organ. Ultimately, tissue ingrowth through the mesh base member integrates the cuff into the wall of the tubular organ. When the cuff is applied to the urethra of an incontinent patient, the increased resistance to flow renders the patient continent while still allowing normal voiding. The base member may also support an optional expandable component, e.g., a balloon-like element that can be selectively inflated and/or deflated to restrict the lumen of the tubular organ by a desired degree.

摘要: The invention relates to an occlusion system implantable in a human or animal body, comprising: a fluidic circuit comprising: an inflatable occlusive sleeve (3), a reservoir (5) with variable volume filled with a fluid, said reservoir comprising a fixed portion and a movable portion, an actuator mechanically coupled with the movable portion of the reservoir so as to linearly displace said movable portion relatively to the fixed portion for adjusting the volume of the reservoir, the actuator and the reservoir with variable volume being laid out in a sealed casing (1) containing a gas, a sensor (21, 22) mechanically bound to the actuator and/or to the movable portion of the reservoir, measuring a traction and/or compressive force in the direction of displacement of the movable portion of the reservoir, a device for measuring the fluid pressure (P1) in the fluidic circuit taking into account at least the force measured by said sensor (21, 22), the effective pressure surface area (Seff) of the movable portion of the reservoir, and the force exerted on the movable portion of the reservoir with variable volume related to the pressure of the gas in the casing.

摘要: An artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) system includes a cuff, a pump, and a single tube that provides the system with an inflatable storage compartment. The single tube is connected between the cuff and the pump and includes a first lumen communicating between the cuff and the pump and a separate second lumen communicating between the cuff and the pump. The cuff is inflatable with a cuff volume of liquid that is sized to selectively close the urethra for treatment of urinary incontinence. The pump is operable to move the cuff volume of liquid out of the cuff to provide the cuff with a deflated state that allows the urethra to open and pass urine. The second lumen has a storage compartment sized to retain the cuff volume of liquid.

摘要: A device for wrapping around a bodily organ and preventing overexpansion thereof. The device comprises inner and outer surfaces with a pliant material located therebetween. The inner surface defines a passage and accommodates and reinforces a bodily organ. The bodily organ, following surgical implantation, extends through the passage and is surrounded by the device. The inner surface, in an uncompressed/slightly compressed state, defines a normal state which supports the bodily organ and permits flow of bodily material therethrough. As the bodily organ expands, due to the bodily material flowing therethrough, the inner surface and the pliant material are compressed and, in turn, correspondingly exert a collapsing force, against the outer wall of the bodily organ, which limits and opposes the expansion of the bodily organ and forces the outer wall of the bodily organ back toward its normal state which still permits flow of bodily material through the bodily organ.
