摘要: A method for diagnosing subacute cardiac dysfunction is performed by electrocardiographically monitoring an ambulatory patient who has persistent unexplainable fatigue and determining the frequency when the T-wave of the ambulatory patient is not positive to determine that subacute myocarditis or a cardiomyopathy is present. This monitoring is preferably performed by a portable monitor and the data is magnetically stored so as to permit subsequent analysis. A treatment is prescribed, preferably restricting activity and refraining from the intake of alcohol as well as antiviral chemotherapy and immunomodulators, when there is an excessively high frequency of the T-wave not being positive. Recovery is determined by further electrocardiographic monitoring of the ambulatory patient and noting when the normally positive T-waves are present all, or at least almost all, of the time.

摘要: An ambulatory physiological evaluation system including a main and background gamma radiation detector provided in a vestlike garment worn by a patient for the purpose of monitoring and/or diagnosing the patient's physiological activities during a prescribed period of time. Also included is an apparatus and method for determining the exact location of the left ventricle of the heart, positioning the main radiation detector relative to the left ventricle, and maintaining the position of the main radiation detector relative to the left ventricle during an ambulatory study period. The ambulatory physiological evaluation system also contains electronic circuitry which monitors and processses information obtained from the radiation detectors. Information from the main and auxiliary detectors, as well as ECG electrodes is recorded on a portable cassette recorder. After the information has been recorded over a desired period of time, the information is presented, through an interface and an analog to digital converter, to the memory of a stand alone computer located in a hospital or office. The computer calculates such items as R-R time intervals, electrocardiagram and time-activity curves, and displays these items and other physiological data for both the main and auxiliary detectors. From the calculations made by the computer, average heart rate, number of aberrant beats, left ventricular ejection fraction and relative cardiac blood volume and other values of physiological significance may be calculated for a time interval of interest.

摘要: A method and apparatus for detection of coronary artery disease. The apparatus records and analyzes that portion of the phonocardiogram lying between about 100 to 600 Hz. An electrocardiogram is also recorded and examined in order to pinpoint the diastolic window of PCG data. This window of data is subject to autocorrelation analysis and spectral analysis, resulting in a partial correlation coefficient index and a power density index. A linear combination of these two indices results in a Cardiac Screening Index which is indicative of the presence or absence of coronary artery disease.

摘要: A system and method for minimizing time-base fluctuations in playing back an electrocardiogram recorded on one track of a multi-track magnetic tape with reference clock signals recorded on another track. A sampling circuit samples the recorded electrocardiogram in response to sampling pulses produced in response to the recorded reference clock signals, and the sampled electrocardiogram is stored in a memory. The stored signal is then read in response to timing pulses produced by a generator. The phase difference between the sampling and timing pulses is detected and maintained constant.

摘要: An electrocardiograph for connection to sensors outputting analog electrical signals and having at least one sensor outputting electrical signals is provided. At least one of the analog signals is sampled, converted from analog to digital form and stored in a memory means. A processor writes consecutively sampled digitalized signals represented by a predetermined duration of the analog sensor output signal to addresses of the memory for storage in consecutive order. The processor applies the stored data from the addresses in consecutive order through a printer which prints a series of portions of a curve representative of the analog signal to produce a cardiogram extending in the direction of advance of the print medium. A magnetic tape cassette is provided for storage of data and an audible alarm means is also provided. The memory may also store programs for analysing the data.

摘要: A device for recording and subsequently reproducing information, such as desired portions of an ECG signal produced by a heart prior to and during the occurrence of a disturbance in cardiac electrical activity. Two basic embodiments of the inventive recorder are contemplated. One embodiment is fully implantable and is encased with sensing and defibrillating electronics. With this embodiment, a low-power, low-capacity, continually updated recorder is continually operative, and a high-capacity stand-by recorder is actuated upon the sensing of fibrillation. An external device is used to retrieve by telemetry, the information stored in the implanted recorder. The second embodiment of the inventive recorder is an external device which has external electrodes for associating with the patient; ECG information is transmitted to the recorder unit by telemetry. Here, because power consumption is not so critical as with the implantable embodiment, a delay-type continually updated memory is continuously operative. Then, when any one of several types of arrhythmias is sensed, or when a defibrillating pulse is delivered, the data in the memory is "permanently" recorded on magnetic tape. Either embodiment may be used with an implantable defibrillator to record and subsequently reproduce information relating to the operation of the implantable defibrillator. The second embodiment also has an alarm capability to warn the patient should there be an interruption in telemetric transmission.

摘要: An improved control is provided for the tape transport motor of a battery-powered, slow-speed tape recorder typically used for producing magnetic recordings of an ambulatory patient. The recorder's tape transport means is driven by a synchronous AC motor powered from a DC (battery) supply. That DC supply, during normal operation, is voltage regulated to provide desired speed stability. That DC supply is inverted into a square wave DC current in a manner effectively providing a regulated square wave AC at twice the regulated DC voltage. Phase-shifting means connected to the inverter provide a phase-shifted square wave source necessary for the two-phase AC synchronous motor. In an improved mode of control, means are additionally provided for selectively supplying current at full battery voltage, square wave inverted and phase-shifted to the AC synchronous motor in lieu of the regulated supply voltage to provide high torque operation for selected periods of time as during "start-up" or "warm-up".
