摘要： A paster which serves to apply a film of adhesive material to the underside of a running web of flexible material, such as tipping paper in a filter cigarette maker, has a roller which supplies successive increments of the film to the underside of the running web and cooperates with a biasing device which rides on the web and urges certain portions of the underside of the web against the roller. The length of the area of contact between the biasing device and the upper side of the running web is less than the width of the web. This renders it possible to prevent or to minimize undesirable flow of adhesive laterally beyond the marginal zones of the web as well as into perforations which are customarily provided in webs of tipping paper.

摘要： A gummer for a filter attachment machine comprises two rollers (10, 12), one of which is arranged to contact the web and the other of which is pressed against the first roller to limit the quantity of gum which is transmitted to the web from a pool of gum formed in the nip between the rollers. Gum is fed continuously into the pool at a position between the ends of the rollers at a rate in excess of the rate at which gum is applied to the web, from which position the gum flows towards the ends of the rollers. Means (15, 16, 50) are provided for collecting excess gum at the ends of the rollers and for returning it to a source (19) of the gum.

摘要： A filter is formed by placing increments of glue in spaced apart relation on a moving stream of plug wrap paper and thereafter depositing alternating fibrous filter sections on the glue increments. Particulate material is then deposited between the fibrous filter sections and the plug wrap paper wrapped about the filter sections to form an endless rod. Two-filter filter plugs are severed from the rod by cutting through the unglued fibrous filter section and thereafter the charges of particulate filter material are compacted by moving the unglued outer filter sections of each plug inwardly. Each plug is then joined to two tobacco columns and cut in half. The resultant filters each have a fibrous filter section at the exposed end glued to the plug wrap paper, a compacted particulate section and an unglued fibrous filter section at the tobacco end.
